Cape Town to Europe

Hey everyone, we are now on the road since February 2017 and did the Silk Road through the Stans and India, New Zealand and are currently in Australia.

Next year we plan to ship to South Africa (around May/June) and would like to ride back to Europe via the east route (from Egypt to Jordania, Israel and then by ship to Cyprus and back to Europe) and plan to be back in Europe in summer 2020. So this means around a year to get to Cyprus.

At the moment we are looking into the weather situation in Africa to get a better understanding how we should do the route to avoid the worst weather (too hot or too wet).

Anyone here that has done a similar route and in a similar amount of time? We specially plan to stay a bit longer in SA, Namibia and Botswana, as it is easy regarding visa.

If anyone also has some good pages/blogs about East Africa Overland trips, let us know :)

Cheers from Western Australia

As for South Africa/Namibia/Lesotho you should plan to visit the countries a bit earlier. April/May is the best time for the Cape Provinces and Lesotho. June should be ok for Namibia and eastern South Africa, but July is definitely too late for Cape and Lesotho. Cold and rainy in the Cape and freezing temps plus snow in Lesotho :freezing:

August brings rising temps again, but that would mean hotter when travelling north.
