I’m planning to ride:
San Carlos, CA
Cabo San Lucas
La Paz (take the ferry)
Topolobampo, MX
Denton, TX
Philly, PA

Outside the US I’ve ridden in India and Finland (rentals). This will be my first time taking my bike out of the US (sorry, Canada doesn’t count because they’re just entirely too nice). I'm planning to do it this April or May. I have some questions that have probably already been answered, but I appreciate if someone wouldn’t mind answering them one more time. My main concerns are making sure I have all the right documents and the safety of me and my bike. So, here are my questions and please feel free to add your own thoughts if you feel I've missed important areas. Thanks in advance

Baja California Questions:
1. Do I need my title or is registration enough?
2. Is the insurance sold near the border any good if my bike actually gets stolen or is it merely compulsory?
3. Should I use my real title/registration or make a spiffy copy in photoshop and use that (of course with my real one tucked deep in my armpit for safety)?
4. Qué lastima! Mi español es muy mal. Am I going to have a tough time? I can stumble through saying something, but usually I can’t understand when someone speaks.
5. What is the best strategy for dealing with corrupt police? In India I just kept driving. Is that (ever) an option?
6. Will my motorcycle get stolen?
7. Are there towns to avoid?
8. On average, how long can I expect the ride from the Cal/Mexico border to Cabo take?
9. What are good places to stay?
10. La Paz ferry: 1) When and how often does it run? 2) Can I call to make a reservation or do I do it in person? 3) Do I need to drain my gas? 4) Who is this Juan person? 5) How long does the ferry ride take?

Mainland Mexico Questions:
1. Will my motorcycle get stolen?
2. What is a good route from Topolobampo to the US (time will be of the essence)?
3. Are there towns/cities to avoid?
4. Are there border towns to avoid (both sides)?
5. Do I need to worry about crime?
6. Recommandations on places to stay?
