BOTS-NAM: question about road Gaborone - Ghanzi - Caprivi

Hi all, can you give me some information about the western road from south to norh (Gaborone/Lobatse to Ghanzi then to Maun)?

What are its conditions and the fuel distance needed?

As we will cross Botswana 2 times (toward Zambia and back), do you think is a good idea to ride this road, instead to ride 2 times the same road on the eastern side, by Francistown?

And what about the follow of this road, from Maun north to Caprivi (on the west side of Okavango delta) then east to zambian border post of Katima Mulilo?

Thank you!

Mirco

All I know is the stretch from Ghanzi up north to Bagani, Popa Falls in the Caprivi region. This is mostly sealed road. Just the short piece fom the BOT border to Popa Falls is dirt road (2006). In Ghanzi I turned westwards to NAM. Fuel is available in Maun and Bagani.

The eastern road from Katima Mulilo - Ngoma Gate - Kasane - Francistown is sealed as well. Fuel is available in every bigger settlement. Between Ngoma Gate & Kasane the road leads through the Chobe NP. You might come across wildlife, even elephants. There was lots of e-dung on the road ;-) So, don't travel by night...

Good luck!
Hans
