Bosnia, Montenegro, Kosovo borders

Hi,

I'm setting off from UK to Greece on 29/4/2019 going via France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia which are all covered under my insurance

from Croatia my route is Bosnia - Montenegro - Kosovo - FYROM

I'm looking for the best border crossings where insurance/green cards can be obtained.

Bosnia I am thinking Metkovic? Montenegro to Kosovo Peja? and Kosovo to FYROM Pristina?

Could anyone clarify if these are the best crossings and if I can obtain insurance and or green card

Many thanks in advance

Jed

Hi Jed,

since these things change on yearly base, it's impossible to provide info in advance, except if someone just crossed recently. Maybe someone will chime in with fresh news, but for Metkovic if you're coming from the Croatian side, you were able to buy Bosnian insurance there, not in Neum, that was last year.

Anyways count on extra time for 2-4 h detours that could happen and if they happen have a pint extra and enjoy the ride bier

cheers

Jed, I’ve just crossed from Croatia to Bosnia using the Metkovic border, no problem for Brit national and bike. Bought 7 day green card insurance €30. Travelled to Mostar , Sarajevo great riding and roads, back in Dubrovnik heading for Macedonia

Kosovo

To Kosovo entering from Rozaije to Peja is no problem. It is a nice road, btw
Entering FYROM you should do via Glloboçica. Its lot better than the main border crossing. Smaller, faster, less traffic and more interesting road

Hi Jed,

I have no experience regarding insurance for most of these countrys as they are covered by the austrian insurances (green insurance card), except for Kosovo.
For Kosovo you can optain insurance at any bigger border crossing (smaler crossings may not sell insurances and you have to get them in the next bigger town).
There is just one more thing to consider except insurance. If you leave Serbia via Kosovo and want to reenter Serbia via another boardercrossing you may get problems as for Serbs you have not officialy left Serbia.

have a nice trip

Hi Jed:

I've ridden through all the countries you mentioned, and obtained insurance at the border in all of them.

I can't tell you exactly which crossings offer insurance (or what the hours of the insurance agents are - they are independent businesses, not government agencies), but the 'general guideline' is that if it is a major road, it's reasonable to expect that you can buy insurance at the border crossing between about 1700 and 1800 7 days a week. Some crossings might even offer H24 service.

Here's a link to a post I made quite a few years ago that might be helpful to you: Balkans Insurance - Here's the story, with details & sample documents
