Borneo

Hi, We crossed Borneo a couple of weeks ago.

We got the ferry from Semarang on Java to Kumai on Indonesian Borneo (Kalimantan) and rode straight up through the jungle to Kuching in Malaysian Borneo.

The road was one of the best we have been on all trip apart from a couple of small spots, they have just opened the Trans Kalimantan Highway and it was a deserted fresh sealed road twisting and turning through the jungle. We could not believe it. It was not on any maps we had or Google.

The border crossing we used was at 0.9888599 110.3529668 and they knew what to do with our Carnets, they are building a huge new border terminal so there was a lot of construction going on.

Where will you be coming in from?

Both Malaysia and Indonesia are Carnet countries so crossing any border between these countries will involve a Carnet and stamping in/out.

You might wanna look in this thread that I made a while a go:

Hubbmember 88ontheroad put his bike on plane from mainland Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur and got it to Kuching. He then rode it to Balikpapan in Indonesian Borneo/Kalimantan which includes a border crossing between Malaysia and Indonesia. But very straightforward - stamp out of Malaysia and stamp into Indonesia.

Theres also a guy who circumnavigated Borneo that has answered in the thread. You might wanna contact him.
