Bolivia To Chile via 701

Hello,

I'm in southern Peru and looking to cross into Bolivia near La Paz. I'd like to be able to ride to Salar de Uyuni, take a paid tour of the Alti Plano, then ride into Chile at Ollague. It looks like the 701 is the most defined route. I'm solo on a fully packed moto and only have basic off-road skills. Does anyone have any information about this route during the rainy season? Is it clearly marked? How's the road conditions? Any information would be helpful. Ultimately I'm heading to Ushuaia before end of February so I don't want to get bogged down on this route if it's a bad idea during rainy season.

Thanks

If it has been raining heavily that road 701 turns into a very slippery mudbath of dimensions and is more or less not rideable at all. However when its dry its one of the smoothest gravelroads I have ever ridden. I rode 701 down and into the Lagunas route. Was caught by rain so spend a couple of nights down there and then returned. Upon reaching 701 it had rained a lot and I had to spend a night in Alota and overnight it had dried up sufficiently enough that I could return to Uyuni.

So if its wet - just wait until it has dried up. It doesnt rain all the time there so it will be a dry window for sure.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply! I may save it for the way back up and distance myself a bit from the rainy season, just to be safe.

Thanks again!
