ARAB GULF COUNTRIES! KSA, UAE, Qatar, Bahrein, Kuwait, Oman

I just decided i'd like to do a big road trip around those countries (about 6000km), but I'm finding extremely difficult to find information on them, which seems odd as gas is so cheap there LOL

I'm searching about border crossings, insurance clear up, road quality, etc. Any inputs?

Seems like there's a ferry from Egypt to KSA, so that probably will be my starting point.

Cheers!

Welcome to the HUBB. I get the impression you are new to the Middle East region, so plenty of research to do.

I would not worry about insurance and certainly not road quality. You need to think about logistics - visas, and whether borders are open or not.

It is very complex to ship a vehicle into Egypt, and most likely not possible to cross the Sinai peninsula.

Many of the Gulf countries don't allow right-hand drive vehicles to enter, in case you are planning to use one.

Currently there is no easy way into the region.

Iran - UAE by ferry: currently closed, though Iran has indicated it will re-open its borders to tourists this month.

Israel - Jordan - KSA: Passenger RORO currently suspended to Israel

Turkey - Lebanon - Syria - Jordan: Syrian borders seem to be re-opening, but it's not clear if tourist visas are being issued again.

Shipping to Egypt - very complex and expensive.

So maybe these are some indication of why not everyone is touring the Gulf countries, despite the 'gas' being so cheap.

I recommend you to join the FB group 'Overlanding Middle East' as there is some up to date info. Also 'Overlanding Africa' for a lot of specific detail on shipping to Egypt.

Hey!

Thanks for the reply! I don't have a motorcycle atm so I actually plan on buying one in Egypt. Of course I cannot do that without an egyptian driving license, but it will be at a friend's name. I'm still researching if it would actually be possible to cross borders with a vehicle that it's not mine. Apparently to drive it in-country I only need a permission from the owner. Any lights on that?

BTW I was in Syria just before the pandemic on tourist visa and had no problems. Crossed from Jordan. Turkey border is still closed and Kurdistan border is not safe.

I will join the FB groups, Thanks a lot!
