Africa Tour

I'm planning a trip around Africa starting in Morocco and ending in Egypt, taking in Cape Town on route. We have no time constraints and intend to leave in September. We're looking for others to travel with and/or meet up with. Also, any up to date info on Niger, Chad, Sudan and Eritrea would be appreciated.

Hiya Goose

I will be travelling from London to Cape Town in Jan 2002 via Tunis, Algeria,Niger,Chad Sudan etc. Let me know if you have any specific questions on routes etc, may be able to help.

If you are going to be around that area will be more than please to buy you a beer.

Visas for Sudan are still hit and miss, the best way to do it is to try to get one before you leave. If you get no joy try Niger or which ever country you are in prior to Sudan.

There does not seem to be as many problems with chad but certain parts require you to pay for a guide which mounts up on the cost front.

Cheers

Julio

Hello Goose and Julio.
Planning Cape Town to UK starting October.
Any info you have on getting from The Sudan to Chad would be invaluable.
Would be happy to meet enroute for a beverage.

Derek-jan

I spoke to the Sudanese Embassy in London last week and other than being time consuming I was lead to believe obtaining a visa was relatively straight forward. There is a Sudanese consulate in Chad, they told me that the visa application would be refered to Khartoum, taking up to three weeks but I have been informed by other travellers that they can be issued on the spot. A bit of a hit and miss affair but if you're not to rushed it seems quite straight forward.

The other problem with Sudan is the requirement to have official guides to visit many of the areas and, I'm lead to belive, to travel the route from Khartoum to Ethiopea, or vica-verce.

If you havn't already done so get a copy of Chris Scotts Sahara Overland, his website is www.adventure-motorcycling.com it's got shed loads of info regarding evrything you could possibly need.

Regards, Goose.

Drop me a line when you reach Egypt. Maybe we can go on an off-road trip or something. I also have a garage where you can work on your bike if needed.

Cheers

Thanks for all the offers of help, however, we're now in India. We had a fantastic seven months in Africa but will have to rain-check the beers until our next trip.

All the best to you all,

Goose.
