Advice / Local Knowledge Needed - Wa, Or, Nv
 

Hi All
My son and I are leaving on a five-day run this Friday from Summerland BC to Apache Junction Az, via Death Valley. I won't go into why we had to wait until this late but it was unavoidable. We're now watching the weather VERY closely because he's in Victoria and will be joining me in Ellensburg Wa, so right out of the gate our first worry is him getting across the Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. After that, our intent is to stay off the Interstates as much as possible.
With this in mind, this is the tentative route I'm looking at, subject to change if the weather is too bad:
Day 1 - Summerland BC - Burns Or: Summerland - Wenatchee - Ellensburg - Yakima - Kennewick - Pendleton - John Day - Burns
Day 2 - Burns Or - Fallon Nv: Burns - Winnemucca - Lovelock - Fallon
Day 3 - Fallon Nv - Stovepipe Wells, Death Valley
Day 4 - Death Valley - Grand Canyon
Day 5 - Grand Canyon - Apache Junction

By Day 3 I'm guessing that we'll be far enough south that weather won't be a problem but I'd really appreciate any local knowledge and advice for days 1 & 2

One more thing: The WSDOT site says there's a snow storm on I90 at the moment but we're hoping it'll clear by the week-end. He's riding to Seattle on Friday after work and I'm riding to Wenatchee. Then, on Saturday morning we're hoping to meet in Ellensburg and continue together from there.

If the passes on I90 are is still snowing our alternative is for us both to continue south, him from Seattle and me from Ellensburg and meet late Saturday afternoon in Bend Oregon. Our hope is by going a little further south it'll be easier to cross a West-East pass and head on to Burns.

Does this seem feasible?
