Adelaide to Singapore to England over 9 months

Hi guys, I have a number of questions I could use some help with.

Over nine months next year I'm planning on flying the bike from Darwin to Singapore, where I'll ride through south east asia, going via nepal, and will get to turkey somehow.

Both my girlfriend and I work in healthcare - The plan is to volunteer at health centres along the way and to try to gain an insight into how things work across the world.

I am an Australian citizen with dual irish citizenship (EU passport) - however I'm not certain about how much the EU passport will assist.

I may be bringing my girlfriend who is a US citizen as a pillion.

My first question is this:

What is the best way to ride from Nepal to Turkey? US and Australian travel recommendations strongly advise against going to Pakistan and Iran due to violence etc, yet I hear there are problems with bringing a bike through China and Russia.

Can anyone provide advice on this?

Cheers,

JK

Hi. For a start you might want to reconsider your Asian start point. Singapore is a real pain for motorbikes in general. I would take it to kuala lumpor Malaysia instead. But, that means flying from Perth or Brisbane. You cannot take a flight with a bike from Darwin as the planes are not big enough

As for the rest big you plan ahead and join some other riders then china is possible but it can have dramas

Indonesia??

Hi JK,
I'm surprised you have not mentioned travelling through Indonesia. I found it to be a great experience, with fantastic scenery and friendly helpful people. It is very simple and cheap to sea freight the bike from Darwin to Dili, and there are plenty of local ferries connecting the islands, Timor, Flores, Sumbawa, Lombok, Bali, Java and Sumatra. No need to book, just go with the flow.
Cheers,
Mark.

Seems like so many boats would be required, more chances of something going wrong. Given Australia is so close to Indonesia maybe we could come back and do a trip through there. We only have 6 months or so, so we'll see how things pan out.

Thanks for the advice though, hadn't really considered Indonesia until now

Hey jaykay

I am based in Singapore (mum and dad live in Adelaide though!) and am planning a trip from here to Croatia starting around June this year. I am still looking at route options, as China is super expensive from what I have seen, so was looking at Myanmar which is tricky as well. I was then thinking India into Pakistan, Iran and into Turkey and on up, but Pakistan seems to be going off a bit at the moment. Depending what the situation is a bit closer to the time I may consider shipping the bike from Mumbai to Oman, and then into Iran....possibly on a dhow which could be fun!

Let me know if you do come to Singapore, happy to help out anyway I can (I know nothing about bringing foreign bikes unfortunately, as my bike is local!).

I'm heading that way too, starting trip from KL in Jan if your looking for someone to ride with
Sea freight will be a lot cheaper. Was quoted $2500 for air freight.
For sea freight contact Aussie Freight in Brisbane. They have offices in KL & the UK for return trip.
