Volgograd - Saratov - Ozinki / Taskala Border - Oral (Uralsk) would be the fastest route to Oral. You could also go up the left bank of the Volga from Volzhskiy to Engels.

For sure you will find some accommodation in Saratov.

No need to go through Samara, though in my opinion it's one of Russia's nicest cities with an unrestored centre and nice riverfront.

Tolyatti and Orenburg are also nice Russian cities to visit, more interesting than Oral or Aktobe.

Hope this helps,

EO

Tanks for your comment.
In Saratov it´s not a problem to find a hotel, but when I´m heading to the boarder there won´t be much.
And I won´t make it from Saratov through the Kaz boarder at Ozinki.
So I might have to stay somewhere off the road in my tent.
That was my concern. (between Saratov and Ozinki).

There is almost nothing on the road from Saratov (or technically Engels) to Ozinki. Are you on a bicycle?

You'll find plenty of empty spaces to camp in. Or, if you speak some Russian, go into one of the small towns on the route and ask for accommodation.

Thanks again for your reply.
I´m on a Motorbike, and that´s what I thought, I just pull over and sleep in my tent.

I rode from Saratov to Uralsk in one day - but it was a long day and arrival in Uralsk was a good bit after dark - so not optimal. Then again the bordercrossing took forever on the russian side. And the road from the border and to Uralsk was terrible with craterlike potholes (august 2014)

Anyhow I doesnt think it was any places with accomodation inbetween Saratov and Uralsk.

I comfortably drove it in one day in 2010, though the road was in OK condition in those days and the border was pretty painless.

Get an early start and you should be fine.

That´s the plan...
I just look for safe parking accomodation in Sartov, any suggestions?
I can´t decide which one to take doh
