A world tour on my motorcycle

2 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, I am Umair, a medical student in his final year, in Nagpur, India. I am planning a world tour on my motorcycle, which has been a long term fantasy of mine. I have built a route and I am talking to a bunch of agents to arrange the visas for all the countries

I have attached a road map, that I've naively built using google maps, I'd appreciate it if the more experience tourers on the forum would give their opinions and modify the route. The destinations in each country are decided by the places that fascinate me, either due to their historical, architectural, cultural or places with some wonderful sceneries to be in

I want to know about the carnet, I've heard some nasty things about it. How would I go about obtaining it, in India, for my Royal Enfield Classic, bought in India and owned by me

I would start for my tour probably in about a couple of years, but until then, I want to have the best prep and just go out and have fun and live life the way I've always wanted and always enjoyed

I am planning a world tour starting 2017, sooner if things change, I live in the US. The Carnet is also a concern to me. I found your post interesting on how you have already acquired the Visa's. Aren't those timed? That would mean you will be stuck to a schedule? Good luck with your plans.

Hi there! Seems like the trip of a lifetime :) But seriously - when you're in the Nordic countries (Finland and Sweden), you'll forever curse yourself for not riding Norway instead. I'd ride up Finland, cross over to Norway and do the North Cape - the northernmost point on mainland Europe. You'll thank me. Check my web page for Norway specific route suggestions and things to see - Ride Norway | All you need to know for your motorcycle trip to Norway.
Have a good one!

Hi, I am sorry to have misled you and give you the impression that I have already arranged the visas, I have not and I am looking for agents that will do it for me.

its not common to find people who are willing to do over 3 countries, in my place of residence. I have although found this website, visahq.com (forgive me if that is not the right address)

I am thinking of getting a month long tourist visa for each country and a 3 month visa for the Schengen countries, just in case I plan to enjoy the EU a lil more ;)

Yes indeed, I will have to stick to a schedule, but while on the road and covering some large parts, like through China, i dont intend to get rooms frequently. I want to have a good tent with me and pitch up wherever I feel tired and stockup on food, water and supplies everytime I hit a town

There are a bunch of riders around my city and after conversing with them, I am convinced to have enough fuel to travel atleast 1000 kms on a stretch (without refuelling) so, I will be getting a pair of auxialliary fuel cells mounted on my bike, I just have to get down to designing and plan where to put them

Thank you for your input. The only reason I planned to do Sweden instead of Norway is because its closer, but since you are giving such a high recommendation for Norway, I will look into it.

Hi, it's an auxilliary fuel cell, a secondary fuel tank, if you will

It stores extra fuel so you can go further without stopping. There are several ways you can set this up, check out forums of Iron butt association for a comprehensive list of builds

1000 km of fuel for your bike is probably at least 40 litres which is waaaay to much on top of all your luggage.

Instead of aux fuel cells, I'd suggest just swapping to a 22-litre tank which should give you 500 km range, even more if you are careful. See Shekhoo Raja: Installing a 22 Litre Fuel Tank on Royal Enfield Classic 500

Except for a few places fuel is available within the normal range

With the route choose you are missing out some of the must see attractions in Peru, Bolivia, Switzerland, Austria or Norway. But that's no big deal. You will figure out when you get there.

You concern should be your visas!
Have you ever looked up the requirements for an Indian citizen to enter the US or Europe? Don't even think of contracting an agent, collect the visas and start an easy-going ride.

I like your map. If I have not started my adventure, my home is available to host you, I live in New England. Or, maybe our schedules will allow us to cross paths along the way. I will create a map autumn 2016 after my training on the Labrador Highway summer of 2016. The ride will test my bike loaded with the gear I will use on my tour. I will use a Yamaha XT250

I am concerned about the 3500kms drive across the China desert, I dont want to be stranded there for a long time just looking for fuel pumps everyday. My stock fuel tank carries 15 Liters and I dont want to change it to a bigger tank cause i've experienced difficulty while turning. If I can find some low profile fuel tanks, that will be perfect, but until then, I will stick to getting a few auxiliary tanks

Thank you, it's always a pleasure to stay with and meet native people from various countries and localities. My plan has not set into motion yet, but when it does, I will be sure to contact you. Do let me know if you are visiting India anytime and I shall be more than glad to show you around to the best of my knowledge

Umair, don't think to much, just do it! Your 15 Liter fueltank is enough! Everywhere are people if you are running out of partol. We crossed Russia, Mongolia etc. and had only once troubles with the partol, the partol station hadn't partol :P Your only "problem"...well it's not a problem because you have the time when your are travelling...it's the visa, but take it easy! Everything is possible! We meet in Laos and Vietnam a guy from India too.

Wow, All through Russia and Mongolia, that amazing. Its a relief to hear a personal experience and to know that I dont have to bother about something, even so as a safety measure, I am considering downsizing from 40 liters to 10 liters, in cases of emergency

Yea, the visas are a pain. Since my tour is so long, I have to consider timing very well, the Schengen countries have an awesome duration for my visit and I can flex around them very well, but its the further countries that I am having troubles with. Visa expiry within 3-6 months of application is a bother
