Are 10 Weeks enough to arrive on Khunjerab Pass

Hello,
I'm planning to start in August '19 for traveling the Silk Road. Start from Switzerland to Greece, Turkey, Iran, The Stans up to Osh. I'm now unsure about the latest Date to cross the Chinese Border in October. How the Weather normally will be in this Month. Khunjerab Border will close on November 1, so i read in some Blogs. Will i have a good chance to have good Conditions in middle of October? And is my Planning for the hole Trip realistic in about 10 Weeks without 'racing'? Thanks a lot for your Help and comments!

I think your start date is probably too late in the season.

We hit snow mid August trying to come into Lake Zorkul from the east in Southern Tajikistan. The road turned muddy and very slippery- impassable for at least a few days.

Later, at the end of August, we rode over Kyzlart Pass (4280 m., between Sary Tash and Osh) in another heavy wet snowstorm. There was 15-20 cm of snow, but the road was warm enough so that other vehicle tracks were mostly wet and we got over.

My guess is that by mid October your chances for riding through there would not be too good. (I have only been there once, so my knowledge is limited.)

Hi I'm leaving 5 juli '19 from the Netherlands also going to ride the Silk road. So I having the same ''problem''. There are people who going trough China at 19 sept. I have 10 weeks to get to the China border, now investigate if that is enough time for me...??

Perhaps we can join this group?

Or riding trough Pakistan later in the year together? Alone trough the south of Pakistan is not my preference:scooter:

Well it is sure you will face less issues with weather when going via Zahedan, if it is October. Ok, unless there is a flooding again in Pakistan.

Around Zorkul is not your average road so not really relevant, it was quite some offroading.
We went there from west to east end of July, beginning August.

Being high in the mountains with snow is the risk.

Hi Jasper
In the meantime i found on CARAVANISTAN other people with the same Idea - crossing the border from Kirgistan to China in September. KatjaHe has built already a f-Group- Site for interested Overlanders.

Hello guys,

i'm replying on this post too to let you know that i'm also interested to do a crossing at the end of september.

I dont feel particularly confident about crossing Pakistan neither but if needed it would probably be better if we form a group.

And otherwise passing through China depending on the costs !

Let's keep in touch !

Hey, when would you arrive at the border of Pakistan? Perhaps we can work together?

Hi,

The same goes for me. I want to travel through China, but I do not want to pay 2500 euros. I have made contact with a Chinese travel agency and they offer a price of around 1000 euros per person.

My plan is if I can form a group or join a group and I know that at the end of March, then I will do that otherwise I will go through Pakistan.

Exciting! I'm now in the Netherlands where I live.
I do not know where you are all now, otherwise we might be able to make contact
