Two Up from Mexico to Brazil on a 1970 BSA

We're on the road as we speak and I thought it was time to share some of our tales so far.

We're a British couple in our twenties, currently riding two up on an old BSA through Central and South America, heading for Rio.

We're in Cusco, Peru, waiting for a new brake plate to be shipped to us after shattering ours in the mountains a couple of weeks ago. Peru is our eleventh country, and we're about half way through our trip. It's been incredible! For full details on what we've been up to prior to this, including riding through Central America and sailing to Colombia, our full blog can be found at twoupfifteendown.

But for now we want to share our onward journey and connect with fellow riders - we thought we would meet many on our travels but have only met a handful in the last four months.

Travelling on a classic British bike certainly has its moments - while the people we have met on their BMWs and KLRs have had little to no problems, we have cause for celebration if we make it through a 300km day with nothing going wrong. We're currently on our third kick start spring, second set of ignition coils, and eleventh set of spark plugs, for example. But it's all part of the adventure and we hope you'll join us on the rest of our journey! Once our brake plate arrives we'll be fitting a new rear tyre and heading for Bolivia, which is sure to be a challenge with mainly off-road riding at an average of 4000m above sea level! Happy to answer any questions about border crossings, mechanical stuff, finding parts etc - we've been through a lot in the past few months and would love to share the knowledge!

Great story, being a huge British bike fan myself it makes it more interesting. One point though, could you post more pics here (and parts of the story) helps keep people interested rather than just putting in Blog references.
Well done, look forward to following the rest of your trip

Hi Gino, we absolutely will be putting more parts of our journey plus pics in here, we've just been stuck in Cusco for two weeks waiting for our new brake plate to arrive so nothing to say! But it arrived yesterday so we're heading for Bolivia tomorrow - will be sure to post some updates as we take on the thousands of miles of unpaved roads!

Maintenance in Cusco

While we've been waiting we've been getting stuck into some maintenance - Betty has had new engine Oil, new gearbox oil, a new rear tyre, new kickstart spring, new plugs, new rear wheel bearing, plus we've reset the exhaust and stripped the carb - she needs a lot of love and care but it's worth it! (Most of the time...)

Beautiful BSA life.

I do like what you have posted, and also have a 1967 BSA A50 love it and feel would be a great bike for a tour. I and a Cornish Jack living in Ireland.
Well done.

I was interested in reading more, but the website doesn't appear anywhere ... the Wayback Machine says it took some snapshots but they just appear as blank placeholders.

This is why sites like HU are so important, they keep the historical info available. A lot of stuff just evaporates off the internet otherwise :(
