This is it. The moment of truth. Will they let us leave Cameroon with our expired visa? And, more importantly, will they let us into Congo? It's a dealbreaker type of a situation for us.

The Congo jungle is a real gem. What isn't is the country-wide petrol crisis almost leaving us stranded in the wrong corner of the country. All there is left is to buy the needed liquid from bottles. Guess how much for a liter! I've been riding the Husqvarna Norden 901 through Africa long enough to form an opinion about it, especially compared to Tenere 700 that I have back at home. Is the more expensive Norden that much better than the Tenere? It is the ultimate overland touring bike? Let's find out while riding this savanna landscape in Congo and making our way to Brazzaville only to end up with a brand new unexpected plan to cross over the river of Congo to DRC. Want to cross the river Congo between Brazzaville and Kinshasa? Expensive, corrupt, swindle, scam, luck, dangerous, impossible are only some words used to describe the situation on the ground there. But we went for it anyway. We've been told horror stories about traveling in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). From huge bribes to kidnappings or worse. That all might be true, but thanks to the international motorcyclist brotherhood we get a special treatment. This is it. We did it! We rode our loaded Husqvarna Norden 901 motorcycles from Ghana to Angola. From Accra to Luanda. Three weeks and 5500km of uncertainty, chaos and pure adventure. But now it's time to call The African Job complete. The bikes will continue to South Africa, but I'm heading home. Only to embark on new adventures soon after. |
