Krabi to Hat Yai

281km, about 6 hours ride time

Departed Krabi at 0730 and arrived Hat Yai at 1330.

Started with light rain for about an hour. After that the sun came out and weather ahead was good.
Highways only so no scenery.

The tour is coming to the end. Hat Yai will be my last Thai stop and I will then cross back to Malaysia.

Hat Yai to Sadao/Bukit Kayu Hitam border crossing to Taiping, Malaysia

277km, 4 hours plus ride time

Departed Hat Yai very early at 0530 and arrived Sadao border crossing at 0630.
I wanted to avoid the crowds at the border crossing.

Immigration counter #2 for bikes and then Customs counter #8 to return the TIP.
There was no crowd at all.

After clearing Immigration and to get to Customs counter #8 you have to ride the bike and make a U turn to get there.
I actually walked from Immigration to Customs Counter #8 as I found it confusing. The officer said bring your bike over here. So I did and then passed her the TIP and she didn't even check the document and told me Kap kun kap (thank you). I told her kap kun kap too and then rode towards Malaysia.

Had my passport checked at Malaysia and I am back in Malaysia after 38 days at Thailand.
Once I crossed over it was 0800 Malaysian time. I headed to a local coffee shop and had a Malaysian Indian breakfast which I missed.

Then head to Taiping for a overnight stay before heading to Kuala Lumpur known as KL.

Weather was good all the way to Taiping but it is a boring ride with highways only.

Once I reached Taiping it started to rain.
Timing was perfect!
The hotel is not in town so I didn't go out for dinner since it was raining.

Taiping to KL

273km, 4 hours ride time

Weather was good and all highway only which is boring on the transport section.
Rode to my nephew's bike shop where the bike will be washed and then left at his shop.
Total distance for this tour was 6,888kms.

I had no issues with my Tiger 800 besides changing the front and rear brake pads.
The Tiger 800 triple cylinder is a nice engine and I especially love the linear torque delivery.
The long travel suspension was very plush with the rear preload set to maximum.

I intend to sell my trusty Tiger 800 at KL so am not shipping it by RORO back to Kota Kinabalu.
The reason I am selling my loved Tiger 800 is she is a bit too heavy for me with my bad back and age. I prefer to get a lighter bike but have not decided what bike to get yet.

I flew back to Kota Kinabalu the next day on 28/6/2024 evening.

Looking forward to my next tour.

In fact I already bought my flight ticket to Saigon on February 2025 as I want to go to Vietnam for the third time and do the South to North route. LOL
And I might do a shorter tour in September/October ..... Kalimantan, Indonesia is on my radar if I can organize a rental at Pontianak.

Thanks for reading.

Tiger after being detailed and ready for sale.

I'd like to add here that your experience with the TIP into Thailand from Malaysia for foreign registered vehicles MAY vary by customs station and Thai Customs officer.

My Malaysian registered bike had no issues as Thailand has specific exemption for vehicles registered in Malaysia, Singapore and Laos.
