Pakistan to Europe 2010

Hi folks,

We have finalised the visa formalities for Europe and Turkey. Turkish embassy advised me to get a carnet for all the bikes. We go for the Iranian visa tomorrow and will keep you informed about the carnet requirements for Iran.
I am still looking out for any help for accomodation in Zahedan, Yazd, Isfehan and Hamadan.

beddhist 17 Mar 2010 05:43

I suggest you get yourself a guide book for accommodation. I arrived late in the evening from Turkey without one, couldn't find a cheap hotel and paid big money the first night.

I also suggest you stay clear of Zahedan (police escorts ...). Go to Bam instead and stay at Akbar's Guesthouse. N29 05.420 E58 21.747

Yazd: many people stay at the Silk Road Hotel in the centre of the old town. The only problem is that there is only room for one bike. Mine stayed outside. It's ok, but you can't leave any luggage on it. There are some petty non-Iranian criminals around, so don't walk alone in deserted streets, particularly at night.

Yes, you need a carnet for Iran and you will also use it for Turkey. See you Automobile club.

I also recommend strongly to buy third-party insurance for the bikes at the TR border. Before leaving TR go to the Automobile club in a big city and try to buy Green Card insurance for Europe. It is required and may well be checked at the next border. It should also be available at the border (e.g. Greece, but no guarantees).

Thanx Peter...

Some more queries..

1. What would be the cost of staying and eating on an average per day in Europe.
2. How much would the carnet's cost per country.

Regards
Kishor

If your route passes from Ankara, Turkey I would like to buy you meal and beer. So drop me a message from here.
And as far as I know no carnet is required for Turkey.

Cheers,
Ozgur

Pakistan to Europe

Yes Tigerranch, the EU visa is done the plan is to take a ferry from Igoumenitsa (Greece) to Italy and then onto France, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and back. If we can get visas Romania and Bulgaria while in Turkey or Europe then might come back through Romania Bulgaria Turkey. But this is no biggy.

1. Hard to say, but if cost is a concern I suggest you bring camping gear, bearing in mind it can get chilly at night in Europe.

2. Only your AA can answer that.

Happy travels.

Pakistan to Europe

Its been bit of a damper:stormy:. The trip date has been pushed back and it looks more like early/mid May. Major set back delay in arrival of my steady steed G650GS from Chicago. The forwarders are just taking too long. Most things are sorted except the carnets can only be done once the bike gets to Pakistan. I still need some kind of advice on what night stops to make in Iran on the outbound leg. My plan is Zahedan, Yazd, Esfahan, Urmia. Any second opinions? I will finalise the Turkish itinerary soon and post it for review.
Thanks

Bagsrpacked 1 Apr 2010 13:43

Slightly improved situation since last write up:mchappy:. The bike likely to be in Lahore this week. April 20th looks a possibility. The Turkish leg finalised.Keziltiepe, Konya, Izmir and Istanbul. Carnets still pending. Any info on the weather conditions temperatures etc enroute especially South and Eastern part of Turkey in early May will hlep. Thanks.

Crossed into south east Turkey a week ago and there was snow on the high peaks but not the road.Cold early mornings and at night but as soon a you drop below 1000ft it's warm.
Cross at the Serow border, the road to Van is amazing.

I hope you and Caf have a safe ride back. My schedule is pushed back because of delays with Pakistan customs to clear my bike.
