New England on a motorcycle
 

I have lived in Central Upstate New York for the last 20 years and I have never been to New England, this summer I decided it would be a good time to take two weeks and explore those six States on my motorcycle.
I have a 2007 Vstrom 650 and would like to ride at least 20% dirt 80% paved.

I am interested in historic and famous places, like twisty roads and natural scenery, from mountains to beaches; like museums and old buildings, but since I want to see as much as I can of New England will spend most of my time riding.
I definitely want to see Plymouth Rock, Boston Harbor and anything related to the birth of this country, also want to see Salem and meet some witches.

Last August I rode "The Skyline Drive" in Virginia and "The Blue Ridge Parkway" from Virginia to southern North Carolina where I attended the HU meeting at the Ironhorse resort; while staying there had the opportunity to ride US-129 "The Tail of the Dragon", a NC-28 "The Moonshiner" and the "Cherohala Skyway"; also visited Cherokee NC and the Ocanaluftee Indian Village to learn about the Cherokee culture.
Any suggestions on places of Interest and routes will be appreciated.

Hard to know how to answer without knowing what you're interested in. Some like beaches, some like mountains, some like museums, old buildings, cities, rural landscapes, abandoned mill towns, wildlife....and a surprising number like nothing so much as quitting early in order to drink massive amounts of microbrewed beer.

State your interests--maybe, for example, rides and other two-week trips you've enjoyed in the past--and you're more likely to attract relevant responses.

I toured parts of New England in 2007 with some friends. One of our memorable rides was to the summit of Mt Washington. The views on the way up and from the top are well worth the trip.

You should definitely try the Kancamagus Highway / NH-112 between Lincoln and Conway in NH. A great ride, I can guarantee you.

I will order some maps from AAA and a tour book to start planning a route.

Rhode Island
 

Come down along the coast through Mystic CT into Westerly RHode Island, go out to Watch Hill, then along ROute 1, sop at Fantastik Umbrella Factory in Charlestown, for Lunch and a fun farm, Route 1 to Narragansett, then over the Bridge to newport.

I can get you more info as this is my home area and I know lots of good back roads and great places to eat. if you need an overnight, let me know

I appreciate your suggestion, riding along the coast is something I want to do and you just gave me some points of interest to stop along the way.
Just got my maps from AAA to start planning a route, measure distances and figuring out how much time I'll have to see it all or if I will have to plan more than one tour.

I am heading to Skyline Drive etc. in March. NH is where I live and there are gravel roads everywhere. You'll need a good map and/or GPS.

Enjoy the Skyline Drive is beautiful, watch you speed, the speed limit is 35 and they take it seriously, I got a speeding ticket last August.
