Hello there,

We entered Myanmar thru the Moreh-Tamu border crossing from India on 2 March 2013. The thing is that in addition to visas, a special permit has to be obtained from the Government in Yangon. This we got by explaining our reasons for touring Myanmar. It took about two and half months for the Rome based Embassy to give the permit, written onto a letter in Burmese, from Yangon authorities.

The country is beautiful and the wait for the permit totally worth it. Roads from the border are in tough condition, calling for considerable skill, especially if you are travelling with a bigger bike like we are (BMW1200GS Adventure) with two up and luggage and i have been lucky with the worlds best pilot.

Would be nice to know the "reasons" and the costs involved, contact datails etc... Sorry, but here in the HUBB we kind of like details sometimes...

Hi Hubbulites

It's the perennial issue that keeps popping up - can you or can't you drive overland through Myanmar. By all accounts to date it simply isn't possible past a few border towns and certainly not from the Thai border across to India.

So I don't know what I'm expecting in response to this post apart from the usual answers, but in short the response above about "reasons" and "details" increased my interest enough to write this post!

Is there any update on the situation or would you be able to disclose anything further about how you made it happen and the route you took?

Hopefully someone will have some good news very soon,

I was just looking at a blog by a group of Germans in Campertrucks who entered and apparently crossed Myanmar from India in a convoy. Unfortunately I don't speak German, but whilst there were plenty of photos, there didn't seem to be any information about how,where or what permits were required or obtained, nor anything about cost.
It would however seem to suggest that it is doable, if you can find someone who is prepared to break the code of 'omerta' which seems to surround this subject !

iff yuo are whiling to pay its veary possibol to cross burma but four the price off around 10.000 dolars four 3 wheaks no thanks thear whas agroup last year that whas sponseard and whent to burma from tailand i meat them in tailand whasent veary imprest whid thear trip but ones again iff yuo have the money then no problem
