My motormobilist videos

Today I posted a new Motormobilist video.
" A ride in the neighborhood on my BMW R850R". In the Netherlands, we have a lockdown and we are not allowed to go abroad so now I make videos in The Netherlands. So I made a video of just a nice ride in the beautiful area in which I live, followed by a visit to Motorservice Ossendrecht because I had a problem with my ABS system.

In the future, I'll post my video announcements here.

Today I published another Motormobilist video.
It is about a motorcycle ride of my son Vincent and I on our BMW motorcycles to Fort De Roovere, an old fort from 1628, a big watchtower and a 'Mozesbridge' in Halsteren. The video is in Dutch with English subtitles.

Thanks Grant, it works fine that way. More videos to come (I'll try to publish a video every Friday).

A lot of effort went into putting that video together Jan so well done. Multiple cameras, multiple angles, rideby shots so you have to go back for the camera afterwards, and, I'd guess, a long time in front of a computer editing it all. I also liked the balance between the 'voiceover' commentary, the ambient background noise and the music (not you playing was it?). It must have taken ages to do and I'm impressed. :thumbup1: I think I'm going to need to up my game.

Do you 'storyboard' the ride, i.e. plan the shots out beforehand, or just film everything and work it out afterwards.

Only improvement I'd make would be to add a bit of sunshine but I'd guess you've got that planned for the next one - or is that going to be ice riding along the canals :eek3:

jkrijt 15 Feb 2021 09:34

Thanks for the compliment Backofbeyond.

I do spend much time to get the sound right. I don't like it when I watch a video and the music is so much louder then the speech.
It takes a lot of time. Two hours riding, a day and a half editing and a few hours for the subtitles. Fortunately I am retired ;-)

We don't do a real storyboard, but we do have a general plan and we do some research about the place we are going to.

At this moment there is snow and ice everywhere but the next weekend should be a lot warmer and I hope for a sunny ride again.
When I was a lot younger, I used to ride to work in summer and winter, even in the snow, but now slippery roads is the only reason not to ride.
Cold or rain is no problem with the right clothing but black ice and snow is to risky for me.

I am looking forward to be able to make long trips to other (sunny) countries again but for now, I am afraid the comming rides will all be in the Netherlands because of the corona-crisis.

This afternoon, I published another Motormobilist video.
It is about a solo motorcycle ride from Ravenhof Castle in Putte on the Belgian border, through the nice scenery of the Brabantse Wal past Bergen op Zoom and then back home.

The video is in Dutch with English subtitles.

Thanks for that Jan, I was sat here with a cup of coffee just riding along with you. If I could make one suggestion it would be to include some kind of route map or something at the start to locate where you are and where the ride is going. I tried chasing it up on Google maps but it was tricky to do.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one getting confused by Dutch road markings :-) . We used to visit NL a lot when my son was at university in Amsterdam and some of the smaller residential roads are laid out similarly to pedestrians only zones in the UK. Many times I didn't know whether I was allowed to drive down them or not. On busy streets I could see if anyone else went down them but on quiet ones it was a guess. Not a big issue on a small bike but more of a concern in my Land Rover.

Interesting you mentioned the cross border sex shops. They don't tend to be the most popular type of shop to live next to here and many of them have gone on-line. The exception is one company that took over the buildings of a bankrupt chain of transport cafes on one of the main north - south routes in the UK. The sites are usually isolated (so nobody complains) and came complete with large car parks. Certainly pre Covid they seemed to be doing ok ...

Chasing my ride on Google maps will be difficult because I make a 20 minute video of a 90 minute ride so I cut big portions of the ride from the video.

Sometimes I included a little map with a video (I am not sure if it was on the Motormobilist channel) and probably I will do it for some videos again.

jkrijt 26 Feb 2021 10:12

Another cup of coffee drunk while I ride along with you Jan :thumbup1:

How much you're affected by cross winds does seem to depend on how different bikes are designed. Something with a high centre of gravity seems to get blown around by the slightest gust whereas low gravity bikes react much less. I've had two GoldWings and they hardly notice cross winds strong enough to blow you off your feet. I'd have thought your 1200GS would have carried its weight low and therefore not be affected much but I've never owned one so I don't know.

jkrijt 17 Apr 2021 19:41

It was not to bad on my 1200GS or my R850R. My sons F650GS Dakar was affected more by the wind.
A long time ago I had a Harley FLH1200 Electra Glide that was hardly affected by the wind and on my GoldWings (1200 and 1500) it was not to bad either

backofbeyond 18 Apr 2021 11:07

I did wonder whether your son's bike would be the one most sensitive to side winds. It does look like it has a higher centre of gravity than the 1200. For me the worst bike I've ever owned for side wind sensitivity was the Honda CX650 Turbo that I had in the 80's /90's. That was a two lanes of the motorway to keep it in a straight line sort of bike. My XR600 came a close second though and if you look at them both in the pictures below it's not hard to see why. Compare all that bodywork up high with our current 1800 Wing in the B/W picture and you can see why it's so stable - all the heavy bits are only a few inches off the ground (just as well really as it would be unrideable otherwise)

A new Friday video on the Motormobilist channel.
The weather was nice and rain was predicted for the next days so I went for a nice Motormobilist ride along the Kreekraksluizen, through an orange decorated village Waarde, along the Westerscheldedijk and to Motorservice Ossendrecht.
(In Dutch with English subtitles)

jkrijt 30 Apr 2021 12:37

This Friday another Motorist solo ride. A ride in the neighborhood on my BMW R1200GS.
A few country roads, a few dirt roads and just a nice ride through the beautiful surroundings we live in.

jkrijt 7 May 2021 11:04

A new Motormobilist video for this Friday.
We, my son Vincent and I, made a motorcycle ride from Hoogerheide to Willemstad. The video was recorded from my BMW R850R and Vincent is riding his BMW f650GS Dakar in front of me. The ride goes through Bergen op Zoom, Moerstraten, Steenbergen and Dinteloord. You will see the ride at double speed. (The video was edited by Vincent)

jkrijt 14 May 2021 10:28

This Friday video is about a tour on my BMW R1200GS, from a terrace in Nispen, where I had a nice cup of coffee, via the touristic route to Hoogerheide.
In the video I show little maps, showing my route. The video is in Dutch with English subtitles.

irfan ilyas 20 May 2021 07:13

great videobier

jkrijt 21 May 2021 13:03

This video is recorded and edited by my son Vincent.
On this video, Vincent rides west from Hoogerheide into the province of Zeeland. While the sun is setting, he comes with his BMW F650GS Dakar along and through many Zeeland places including: Rilland, Krabbendijke, Kruiningen, Wemeldinge, Kapelle, Goes, Nisse and Heinkenszand. The end point of this ride is at the bottom of a seawall to the south-east of Vlissingen.

jkrijt 28 May 2021 21:32

My son Vincent made this short video about a truck smashing a road sign while the trucker doesn't even notice! The video is in Dutch with English subtitles.

jkrijt 4 Jun 2021 21:23

Unfortunately , due to a broken harddisk causing video files to be damaged, no new motorist video today.
