Great trip! Next time perhaps you can take a little more time, or fewer miles, and enjoy the drive!

By the way, if no one has mentioned, bungees are a bad idea on a bike. They tend to get wrapped up in the rear wheel and cause a dismount as high speeds. Go with a more conventional cloth strap that you can cinch down. Just to be safe...
