Leaving Sweden to do reconnaissance in Morocco
Today Chris, Jonas and Lisa are heading off on their journey to Morocco!
I will take the info from Lisa's blog and put it here for you to enjoy! Lisa's blog can be found here: Lisa Nordlind - på motorcykel i Afrika med Jonas och Chris The trip is meant to be reconnaissance for future trips with Chris's company Explore 360 (there will also be updates on https://www.facebook.com/Explore360degrees). So here is today's entry: We are leaving today! Chris, Jonas and I. Three BMW F800GS motorbikes loaded with cameras, tents, extra parts and plenty of adventure spirit! =) The ferry goes from Gothenburg to Kiel. Then we will drive the bikes to Hamburg, about 84 kilometers. From Hamburg to south France by train. Another 200 kilometers by bike and a Italian ferry to Tangier in Morocco. About 4 days to get to Africa. In Morocco we have 2-3 weeks of exploring to do! We had loads of time to go from Särö to Gothenburg but we managed to leave in last minute and stressed away to the Ferryl. Autozug from Hamburg to Narbonne

Heavy winds on the way to Hamburg. Pitstop at German Touratech to add some more ”just have to have stuff”. I got myself a ”cameltoe”…!?!? A sidestand extention thing so the bike will bea easy to park on loose ground. Just loaded the GSés on the Autozug and have 20 houers to go to Narbonne. 13 october – First night in Morocco

Eid al-Adha

We arrived late at night to a small village in the mountains. The camp site was closed but Aziz, a local was so kind to invite us to his home. He gave us two rooms with beds and chai tea. The next day we experienced Eid al-Adha, a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. A sheep was sacrified to Allah and the streets were covered in blood. It feels small, fast and it really loves the gravel and bumpy roads. The weight of around 220 kg only shows when trying to lift it up after a fall. A fabulous day in the Atlas mountains with about 110 kilometers. A challenging sandy riverbed that finally took us to a small road. We leave Sidi Ifni in the morning, driving north east. The weather suddenly changes and the temperature rises 10 degrees within 200 meters. The wind is intense and we are surrounded by flying desert sand. A shepherd is walking his goats and the the lack of food on the grownd makes them creative. Taroudant to Ouarzazate

290 kilometers from Taroudant to Ouarzazate over the highest mountain pass of Morocco. The road was much worse then expected and with fully loaded bikes it was a great challenge. As the storm came closer and we moved with walking speed we prepared to spend the night at high altitude. Broken roads

Previous bad weather had broken the roads due to many land slides and we had to go one by one through the tricky parts and help each other. Children of the villages followed us up the broken road removing little roadblocks that they built, with the hope to earn a few dirham for their help. Driving in Marrakesch puts your focus on maximum. We parked the bikes at a parking company and checked in at the Riad La Caleche in the heart of town. We were advised not to walk the 700 meters back to the hotel at night so we took a cab. The driver locked all the doors due to risk of robbery. The streets of Marrakesch are full of life and spectacular shopping in the evening and turns into a dark labyrinth at night where you don´t want to be walking. It´s when you mentally and physically push yourself to new limits that you really get to know your self and others. When you spend weeks together, night and day. Through sad moments, happy days and memories that will stay with you forever. With a tear on my cheek and a smile in my heart I said good bye to Chris and Jonas when they left Spain this morning. A new fire is burning inside of me. Hunger to see more of this world from the aspect of a bike. So ”porque no”?
