Solar thermal powered car video part 23,
In this video I explain how the solar car will turn into a camper, how the mirror will be covered for high speed aerodynamic travel. I also go over a model of the solar car I am building with all working parts including the steam engine. This will be presented at a renewable energy conference here in La Paz Mexico. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS6YQ...e_gdata_player |
In this video I show how I built the mirror support structures for the solar thermal car scale model. Many of these building techniques will be used to build the full scale solar thermal car. The mirror curve accuracy has been greatly improved from my previous solar thermal devices.

In this video the first test outside with the solar car mirror model hit 139c.
Also showing how to apply aluminum foil to make a solar power mirror from plywood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkNza...m-upload_owner |
Around the world Adventure, short, HD part 4
In this video we canoe down the yukon river, camp on islands and help care for native animal at the Yukon Wildlife preserve. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aope...e_gdata_player |
In this video I heat up oil to 199 degrees Celsius using only sunlight. A glass tube around the metal pipe allowed focused sun energy in and insulated the pipe by trapping air around it. This shows me that there is more then enough energy in this design to propel the solar thermal powered car.

I presented the model of my solar thermal powered car at the science and engineering exhibition at the University here in La Paz. I was very happy with how many people were interested in the design.

On the second day of the solar thermal workshop one group was able to heat a pipe up to 150c using only cardboard, aluminum foil and the sun. We tested the other units and ensured the focused light formed a line of concentrated light at the middle of the pipe.

In this solar thermal powered car video I compare the heat when the model mirror is fixed and automatically sun tracks.

In this test I use the small solar thermal car model to compare the temperature with and without glass and trapped air insulation. Half the pipe is in a glass pipe and the other half is not. The pipe receives the same amount of focused light but the glass section was about 20c hotter.

I have finished the structure of the solar thermal car test unit. In this video I introduce the test unit and show how I built it.

Please have a look at this article that was written about my solar thermal car on the Arduino blog.

For the solar thermal car test unit I am building an electric hot oil pump out of garbage car parts. Have a look at the video below.

I have successfully pumped oil at 150 degrees celsius with my homemade oil pump. Now I can install it into my solar thermal car test unit and pump hot oil to boil water and run a stream turbine. The Solar thermal car is really starting to come together. Please have a look at the video below.

Its alive. The large solar thermal test mirror rotates. A powerful motor rotates the mirror and locks it in position so its on target with the sun. A similar system will be used on the 24 foot long solar thermal car mirror. Have a look at the video of it working, below.

Another article was written on my solar thermal car. The article covers what I want to do with this project.

When I was 12 years old I built a small car out of a broken walkman and some garbage. I recently built a replica of that car. Building this car when I was a child really helped spark my love for engineering and building things from what people consider as garbage. I hope I can spark this love for engineering in children. I will be giving this car to a child and hope it will spark some interest in them.
Video of the car in action http://youtu.be/zbD-D9f5t5s |
Today our solar thermal car website is ready. There are still a few things to add but almost all the initial info is there. There are 80 pages, lots of pictures and 20,000 words explaining things in great depth. Please everyone have a look and tell us what you think of the site.

My first DIY wind turbine video is finished. In this video I build wood wind turbine blades and test them out on my roof.
I also build a small metal turbine and create power. http://youtu.be/W9GM3TMPV9M |
I made a how to video on making homemade wood wind turbine blades. They can be built very easily, for a few dollars and be used to produce power from the wind.

I built a homemade electric generator out of a magnetic knife rack and a broken motor. Its no very powerful but now I know how to build a powerful one and produce free electricity from the wind.

Free Electricity.
I built a wind turbine and electric generator out of garbage and got some good power. I will continue to improve the design to get even motor power. This entire generator cost me less than $1 and can produce electricity for many years. http://youtu.be/IVmPztxdSeU |
This video shows how you can make your own copper wind generator coils from garbage electric motors. You can build a wind generator for free and get electricity from the wind for many years.
I will be building some of these free wind generators for our solar thermal car. We will try and park the car close to the ocean or on a hill that has lots of wind. The wind turbines will run all night and charge the batteries so we can drive during the day. http://youtu.be/gDkOtf611z0 |
In this video I test my larger wind turbine in the desert by our house. It spins like crazy in a strong wind.
http://youtu.be/146N8MLgTPU |
This is a video on how I built the wind turbine tower on my roof. It only cost about $20 and with a $5 homemade wind turbine it can produce lots of free electricity.
The video also shows the wind turbine producing power for free from the wind. http://youtu.be/ysOf8YXuVpE |
