Conquering Colombia

one day or on weekend at a time
example I did Neiva Ibague Mariquita Termales de Ruiz Manizales Pereira Armenia Ibague and Melgar 690 km 18hours 6 hours at night in poring rain for 3 hrs over the pass from Armenia to Ibague, we Probably passed 1000 vehicals
I travelled with 2 Colombian locals from Ibague G700gs, GS1200
Colombian bikers are experts of mountain travel enthusiasts +2
from Mariquita to Manizales, route 50, altos de letras climbing 3500 meters to a pass at 3990 in 80 km and i believe it is the highest climb in the world in the shortest distance on pavement it is amazing and what is more amazing is the Colombian cyclist that do this for sport they are Tough bastards
Colombia has been a great place to own a bike and i look forward to every day off or week or month to ride this magnificent country
yes i would say riding in Canada is boring the rockies don't even go as high as the hi ways here

It's nice to see that you enjoy riding in Colombia. I have been doing it on and off since the mid 70s.

I agree with you that riding is Colombia is chalenging, but I don't quiete follow you when you mention it's boring riding in Canada. I don't know what you have seen of Canada, but the Canada that I have crossed coast to coast so many times is far from being boring.

To justify your claim I quote '' yes i would say riding in Canada is boring the rockies don't even go as high as the hi ways here''. The highest pic in Colombia is the Pico Cristobal Colon at 5776m, while the highest in Canada is the Angel Peak with 6858. That's more than 1000m higher that the Colombian highest peak.

Everyone can agree that Colombia has world class landscapes but unfortunately not everyone agrees that Colombia has world class roads because for most part roads are a pity full of potholes like in most South American countries.

You mention that Colombians are experts of mountain travel enthusiasts +2. To be honest I would say that almost everyone rides or drives without respect towards one another to say the least.

Way up there

MT Robson 3954m rockies canada
MT Logan 5959m Saint Elias Range/Denali canada
MT Waddington 4019m Coastal range canada
PIC Simon Bolivar 5700m Sierra Nevado de Santa Marta
the boring part in Canada is
You cant see mt Waddington from any Road or Mt Logan
I work in aviation and have landed on Mt Logans Glaciers with a Twin Otter supporting Beakers Scientific Groups
Mt Waddington, flown around it many times
MT Robson take the Yellowhead from BC to Alberta you might see the peak on a good day
Here in CO i travelled from Mariquita 465m to Termales del Ruiz our ultimate pass to get to the hot springs was 3990m and that beats MT Robsons altitude
If there are no roads to see the mountains WHY compare! thats why i stated the mountain passes are higher than the mountains in Canada
If you have money see Canada in a motorhome with a bike trailer and bikes, is the ultimate get a real dirt bike
I travelled over45 years in Canada with my work and leisure Planes Trains Automobiles Helicopters Ferries Boats Snow Machine Canoe and Motorhome hell i have traveled many thousand km on ice roads This is 45 years of adventure Dude! I have witnessed building of a Nation coast to coast to coast yes we have 3
Never on a bike have and i travelled in Canada and i don't think i missed anything
I am not bashing Canada but i do like to get more bang for my buck and
Colombia has been very good for me
My 2 Pesos

AD riders come to Yukon and Alaska from around the world because it offers adventure riding at its best. If you don't know anything about those roads, don't claim there is no road. Dude!
