Picked up the Yamaha Nmax 155 in the evening on 4/7/2025.
I used the Nmax previously in my Sumatra tour and it was a good bike. On tour it is nice to have a long travel suspension to soak up the bumps on the long hours in the saddle. But in Indonesia it is difficult to find ADV bikes and they are all <200cc anyway. Seminyak to Nusa Dua ATD 0700hrs ATA 0830 Short 1.5hours ride to the guesthouse. Left my bags there and rode around the POI's I had listed. Traffic was really bad even for bikes. There was some light rain so I had to put on the rain gear. I got myself a new Astar Bogota Pro jacket and it came with a rain jacket that could go over or under the jacket. I didn't bring the new jacket and used my trusty Clover Savana 3 jacket and brought the Astars rain jacket. Nusa Dua is on the southern end of Bali and I actually wanted to stay 2 nights but I had initially booked for 1 night only. The guesthouse had a pool and the room was nice.

Nusa Dua to Ubud. Altitude: 200m AMSL ATD 0840 ATA 1300 Put on the rain gear at the hotel as there was light rain and stopped to take off the rain gear after 30 minutes. Stooped at a cafe at 1030 as there was heavy rain. Waited till 1200 but the rain didn't stop. Put on the rain gear again and arrived Ubud at 1300. Traffic was terrible, the roads are narrow with too many vehicles. I hope the traffic improves the further I get away from the main tourist areas. Room was not ready when I arrived at the guesthouse so I chilled while waiting for the room to be ready. The clouds were still dark and I decided not to go anywhere on the bike even though I wanted to go to some POI's on the bike. There was a downpour in the evening and I had planned to go the cultural "kecak" show at 1930 but the rain was too heavy. Walking out for dinner I was drenched in the heavy rain. Ubud The weather is sunny. Sent clothes to the laundry and walked around the town. Had to wear flipflops as my hiking shoes got wet last night while out for dinner. Ubud to Sidemen Altitude: 400m AMSL ATD 0750 ATA 1020 The traffic was light and scenery was more enjoyable. Good ride today. After I check in at the guesthouse I went to the Besakih Great Temple (1000m AMSL) about 1 hour ride away. It was beautiful and not packed with tourists. Sidemen to Amed ATD 0830 ATA 1315 Breakfast provided by the guesthouse was rubbish. I didn't eat most of it. Nice weather and the ride was scenic. My route had a section where the road was muddy and soft. Th Nmax got bogged in a uphill section due to the low ground clearance and road tyres. Spend about 10 to 15 minutes getting the NMax out from the soft mud. Luckily the Nmax is light and I could lift the front wheel using the handlebars and point the front wheel back downhill. That was interesting. ha...ha.... I actually took the wrong line up the hill and should have taken the shoulder which was better to go up the hill. When I did my route planning back at home weeks ago I did realize the Google maps did not choose that route. I created a waypoint nearby so that it would route me using this road. Operator error! I decided not to risk it and had to backtrack a bit and then took the long way to Amed via the coastal roads. Amed to Lovina ATD 0800 ATA 1330 Went to Batur UNESCO park (altitude approximately 1337m AMSL) Weather was good and the way the weather reminded me of riding in Osaka Japan in winter with temperature in the range of 10C. I was actually feeling cold and layered up with the rain gear. The museum was interesting on the volcanic formation but most of the information was not in English. It would have been more informative if the information was also in English. I can speak and read Indonesian but probably only around 70%. Some of the words are lost on me so I would have preferred an English translation. Then continued to Lovina going down from the mountain.
