Is there anyone travelling from Bangkok to Kathmandu within the near future?

I will be in BKK (Suvarnabhumi) Airport next Thursday-25 April, but only for a few hours, while I await my connecting flight back home to England. I actually have a spare secondhand rear shock absorber for a 2005 XL650V Transalp in my kit*. I could hand it over to whoever might be in/around BKK for eventual delivery to Mehmet Zeki Avar's Turkish friend.

I'm currently in Cambodia - Siem Reap area. Flying to BKK from Phnom Penh next Thursday morning.

* I replaced my Transalp's standard Honda shock absorber with a new Hyperpro unit a couple of months ago and have been carrying the Honda shock with me, as a spare, ever since.

Don't hesitate to contact me if something can be worked-out. I would love to help.

All the best

Keith

Hi Keith,

we are Mehmet Avar's friends who have the rear shock absorber problem. we just got a user from HU.
Is it possible for you to send that rear shock absorber to Kathmandu.

thanks,
best regards

Hakan & Sandan Ilhan

Keith1954 18 Apr 2013 12:57

I guess I could post it .. but maybe far easier (and no doubt cheaper) for someone to carry it in their luggage from BKK to KTM.

But Hakan & Sandan, if no-one is available to put it in their checked-in baggage, then early next week (Monday or Tuesday) let me know your Kathmandu address and I'll see if I can send it from Phnom Penh.

Have you got any ideas about the best method of carriage - DHL, FedEx, etc? - please let me know. Thanks.

Keith

@ H&C

I've just looked at my PMs. Sending it from where I am now - in Siem Reap, Cambodia - could work too.

There is definetely a DHL depot in Phnom Penh - don't know about Siem Reap though. Any other ideas?

Keith

Keith1954 18 Apr 2013 14:43

Hakan & Sandan - After a Google search, I've discovered that there is also a DHL depot here in Siem Reap. The address is:

DHL Express Cambodia Ltd.
No. F15A, Sivatha (St.), Phsar Kandal, Sangkat Svay Dangkum, Siem Reap.

This location is 3.3 km (10 minutes) from my hotel.

Let me know if you want me to go over there and enquire about shipping the shock absorber. I will need a delivery address in Kathmandu.

Thanks
.

Shipping from Siem Reap to Kathmandu

Dear Hakan & Sandan

I have been to the DHL Office here in Siem Reap. Yes, they can package and ship the shock absorber to you in Kathmandu. For the avoidance of doubt, this is a picture of the spare shock unit in my possession, which you can have with my compliments:

http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-P...-PZLhL7W-M.jpg

The shipping weight, including the packaging, will amount to 4.0 Kg. And here is the problem: to ship this to Nepal from Siem Reap is going to cost USD 182, which is a lot of money. For confirmation of the price from DHL please click on THIS LINK.

I was reluctant to spend this amount of money until I hear from you to say that the price is okay. Shipping time will be 4-5 days (best to assume 'working' days).

If US$182 is acceptable to you then let me know as soon as possible, as the DHL Office here does not open during Sundays. I must know your answer straightaway if you want me to ship today (Friday-19th), or tomorrow morning (Sat-20th).

It is really a shame that no-one is flying from Bangkok to KTM, who could take the shock absorber from me at BKK next Thursday-25th. It would get to you around the same time, BUT with a huge saving in delivery costs.

Please get back to me soonest.

Kind regards

Keith

Ask on somewhere like LP Thorntree if anyone is flying that way?

hayallerde 19 Apr 2013 18:24

Hi Keith,

sorry, we couldnt return you soon because of our internet connection problems. it is so weak, and goes down so often :(
A Turkish friend is now at Cambodia and he will be in Kathmandu in 2 weeks for trekking purpose. He told us that he can help us. so we just asked for his communication (phone number, e-mail address) information. as soon as we get his information, will send you. It will be realy nice, if you meet and give him the rear back absorber.
So where are you staying in Cambodia?, and what is your departure date from Cambodia? can you send us your communication information please..
thanks alot, best wishes,
Hakan & Sandan
