Tyres in Mongolia
 

Hello everybody,
Planning a trip to Mongolia,:funmeteryes: I am looking for a possibility to buy (off road) tyres for my XT 600

I would like to buy them in Mongolia or in the neighbouring part of Russia(not to carry them all the way)

If your tires are the same size as what Urals have you might get them in Mongolia. My BMW has 17" rear and 21" front and I was told by a guy who has the same bike and had lived in Mongolia for five years that he never found a source for tires there.

I heard you can get them in Irkutsk

The best thing is to send them ahead so you're guaranteed to get some.
We finished our trip to Vladi (3aj XT Tenere) in 2006 and could not get any new tyres that worked out. Not 21" and 18" new. Urals use the same diameter (18" I think) on both front and rear but a really skinny. We tried in Almaty, Ulaan Bataar, and every major city. We got some used tyres from other bikers (Polish mostly for some reason) and managed on that. I bought one used tyre for a rediculous price in Novosibirsk. They mostly get their tyres from Moskow but don't really stock any. All the locals get theirs well in advance.

It shouldn't be hard to send them ahead to some guest house in Ulaan Bataar. Or a travel agency. You can get guest house details on the Lonely Planet thorn tree. We ended up having to finish one of our original tyres off. 28k on a trailwing 301. We're going to frame that one. But I would have preferred to have some new rubber of my choice. I had to go through the road construction along the former Zilov Gap on a road profile Pirelli in the muddy rain. Not fun.....

I am carrying an brand new(06 manufacture date) Dunlop Trailmax as a spare...140-80-17 and will probably ditch it UB Mongolia if my Anakee holds up in July 2007...if anybody can recommend a place or a biker that wants it let me know...i paid 150 Euro in Turkey but will take 120 Euro...

If you want to ship tires to Ulaan Bataar, I can reccomend sending them to Nassans Guest house. I'm sure you can find contact info with a web search. They are friendly, speak English and have a storage facility. The problem will be them having to pay any import tax when you are not there. You will have to work out a way to send them money for that.

I personally would recommend Chingis Guesthouse near the Irish Pub. I've stay at Nassan's for two of my stays, but I found her to be too much of a pushy business woman. Chingis came me more privacy (less beds in a room) for the same room.
I any case, good comment on the importation. They are all really good though with this stuff. Mongolians have pretty good business mindsets.

Tyres In Mongolia
 

After reading threads . im still at a loss {not enough info} regarding shipping tyres to Ulaanbaatar.PLEEEEEse could anybody help,from London which shipping company to use,where and how do i pay duty or tax and telephone no,s of a couple of guest houses {i can only find travel companys so cannot ring them direct} Thanks for everybodies time.:confused1: ROCO RIDER

Just find a hostel and post it to them. There are few and you should be able to find a few names on the Lonely Planet website or guide books. I like Chingis Guest House a lot, but I think you'll find a few with that name.
Any freight forwarding company of courier should be able to tell you about all the posting issues.

Contact Rene at Oasis...he can tell you if he already has tyres in UB or not.

He might be able to receive them as well..

BUT unless you're Komatsu or Caterpillar, NO freight company delivers to a specific address in UB. You'll have to pick up at the delivery company's office. DHL is a good choice for Mongolia...and their office is behind the main hospital...you can catch a bus to it.

17 inch tube?
 

I am in UB right now and spent two days looking for a 17 inch tube for the back wheel of my Suzuki XF 650 - without any luck. Does anybody have an additional idea where to look?
Or is anybody some days north of UB and can bring me one F 17 (for a 130/80 tire) from Russia? ;)

I had to use my spare tube because of a nasty nail and now really feel uncomfortable driving futher without a spare tube in my luggage...

Additionally, I would need new street tires. This is a thing I could also do back in Russia, but when anybody wants to change his 130/80 17 inch and 100/90 19 inch tires anyways, I would gladly buy them! :cool4:

if theres no other chance to get them, let your loocal deeler send it from your home town by ups or an other spediteur.

Did you try Steppenfuchs? He carries a lot of tyres and tubes
