Good Mechanic near London to get old DR350 ready for Africa!

I'm hoping to buy a DR350 in the next few weeks for a trip to Cape Town.

The last two bikes I've owned (only two bikes I've owned) have been rather temperamental so I'm really hoping I can iron out any kinks in the new bike before I leave.

I appreciate that the DR350's are getting a bit old now, really hoping that someone knows a decent mechanic that can pull the whole thing apart, replace half of it and give it a new lease of life. If possible a mechanic who knows a bit about overlanding and what mods I should be doing!

I'm based in South London but happy to take it somewhere nearish (Milton Keynes, Brighton etc rather than Aberdeen!)

Thanks,

Jimmy

Hi - just a refresh of this post.

Need service for Suzuki DR650 near London.

Any recommendations?

Hi Jimmy

Have a look at the Oval Motorcycle Centre they are based in Wandsworth.

Its a workshop which is fully kitted out and you get a work stand and carry out the work yourself under instructions from Matt who knows everything about bikes.

This way you learn as you rebuild your bike.

I have used them last week for my bike which is off this weekend for my RTW.

Dunno if Austin Vince is around ATM, but surly he and his gang would have DR350 knowledge or know someone who has.

DR350 a great bike if set up right. Of course, the DR650 is even better!

The DIY workshop thing is also catching on here in USA. A couple good ones in San Francisco and Oakland/Emeryville for anyone coming over. One is here:

These guys also sponsor ADV Travelers, helping them raise funds whilst on the road.

If you want it proper looked at and sorted, give Gabe at Zen Overland a shout. Ok, he's a fair bit west of London but might be worth the extra miles.

Perhaps though, you ought to do it yourself, then you'd have a reasonable knowledge of the bike.

Hi,

Hope these guys are good for you, edinhomotos.com, 34 Quixley St, London E14 9PU, 020 7987 9161
They are a group of Brazilian lads and they know their onions.
Easy to get to from South London too!

Does anyone know of a similar facility for working on a 4x4? I'm trying to get my landcruiser ready but don't have a driveway or garage, so i'm stumped unless I pay out for someone to do it for me.

Cheers,

Matt
