usb in Africa?

Hi,

I think about bying a digital camera for a years trip through Africa (west africa and from South-A. to Djibouti; actualy also the middle east). Does anyone have information about the possibilities to use usb in internet cafés? I hope the big cities have good computers and usb possibilities.

Also which camera do you prefer? (Which is not too expensive)

Marianne, I’m not sure but I don’t think a lot of the Internet café around Africa will let you plug in your camera. Also the connections might not be fast enough for you to upload your pictures at a practical rate. The way I see it is that you must carry along some sort of storage device to dump your camera pictures on. This usually means a laptop and maybe a CD Writer. Not to mention extra batteries and charger. For that reason alone I would get a conventional camera instead.

The appeal of digital cameras is their convenience but we tend to forget is that all this convenience is on a desk at home. I’m a big digital fan, but on the road, conventional film camera rules when it comes to convenience.

Im going with USB camera to Africa too. Im taking with me exstra memory card, so if you have a frend, that have dig. cam. let him blend you exstra mem. card. But be carefoul, becouse there are 4 tipes of mem. cards and not all of them are good. Sony is heaving memory stick that is almost indestructible.
For others I dont know. If you buy dig. cam. with 1.3 MP then you need 64 MB card for 100 photos, if you buy better, pictures will be better, but you will need biger card. Of course you can check for bed pictures and delete them. So if you have place for 100 pictures, all of them will be OK.
I will take with me blank CD and hope I will find some internet cafe with CDRW to store my pictures. Sending them on internet it would take to much time.
I dont know where you are going, but they have CDRW in Tunisia.
