Slide Film - Any preferences
I'm going to return to slide film for a bit after quite a few years. Anyone have any preferences?

You'll find slide film has evolved a lot lately. I use the green boxes (Fuji) on most of my assignments, mainly Provia 100 & 400, and Velvia when possible. Other pros I work with do everything on the yellow boxes (Kodak). Can't go really wrong if you stick to reputable brands and stay aware of heat and expiration dates.

I used Fuji Sensia 100ASA on my last trip. I am not an experienced photographer, but I am very happy with the result.

I've been told that color is very vivid with Fuji (like Disney Land). More so than Kodachrome.

Actually, Kodachrome was considered "vivid" a long time ago, when contenders were inexcusably poor. The guys that still use Kodachrome today do so for its "life-like" palette, not for popping color.
Of course, a great many use it out of habit and won't try anything else. But Kodachrome has been rendered obsolete a long, long time ago. In my opinion, Fuji is vivid, but not exxageratedly so. Of course, you can get silly with oversaturating Velvia if you want, but Provia and Sensia are quite accurate, not Disney at all. |
