Recommendation for bridge camera
 

Hi guys,

I am looking for a new digital camera and am not up to date at all.

Maybe you can recommend a good camera.

I was looking at the Canon Powershot A720 IS.

What do you think about this camera? Are there any interesting models from Fuji at the moment?

If you are looking for an DSLR, I can recommend the Nikon D70s. They are not very expensive secondhand and mechanical strong. I have one with a 18-200mm lens that I carry in my topcase (in a good camerabag) and I am very happy with it. My son has a D50 and he carries it in the topcase of his moped (ofcourse in a good camerabag too) and it works good, after years of use.

For small camera's, I have a Kodak Easyshare C653 and a Nikon Coolpix S210 and both are nice camera's. The Nikon picture quality is slightly better but the Kodak runs on AA battery's and that is easier on the road.
The Kodak is stong too. Once I was talking while packing the bike and left the camera on top of my topcase. It dropped from the bike, only in a small camera cover, when I was doing 80 km/hour. My wife was riding behind me and saw it falling. We found it and it was only damaged a little but works fine.

Thanks for your infos. I was actually considering in buying a DSLR camera, however I think this would not be the right thing for me.
I never used an SLR camera and for my purposes a cheaper one would do its job.

I have already a compact camera. A Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 with 5.1 megapixels. Very small, fits easily in my pocket.

I am looking for a so called "bridge camera" the digital cameras between the compact cameras and DSLRs.

The problem is the choice is just too big. I was looking at the Fuji FinePix models.
What about the S5700 / S5800 (cheap as chips)
Or FinePix S9600

I could second the d70s (for a DSLR..)Mine has taken a beating and still works great.

A small compact digital Dslr that is a point and shoot as well is the olympus 410.. it has gotten great reviews.. a great source of info is DPREVIEW.com.. Good luck. and remember it is the guy behind the camera that really takes the picture not the camera.. i have seen crap from pro -camera, and stunners from point and shoots...

You're not gonna like this, but ... I too, vote the D70. Sorry.

Not sure what a 'bridge' camera is. Not sure it does either!

It is basically between a compact digital camera and a DSLR.

I am aware that it never can reach the quality/features a DSLR has but it is much cheaper, smaller, lighter and I'm sure it does better pictures than a compact digital camera.

Carrying 2 cameras provides for the failure of one (happens - twice to me that I can recall).


Basically I have a DSLR .. without the removable lens ... an Olympus C5060 .. now obsolete but they make something similar I believe. I'd buy another of the C5060 if they still made them - it has been good.

Try a Nikon P50 , a good wide angle lens , compact and easy to use .
