AA Battery camera.
Hi all.
Had been looking a while back for a decent snap away digi cam that takes AA batterys with no luck so ended up getting a digi with a dedicated battery and then getting a 12v charger for the bike. Just got hold of a Nikon cool pix L20 which runs on 2xAA batteries. Goes up to 10mp and does all the normal compact digi stuff. I like the flexibility of this as most of my battery elecrical stuff uses AA size so no need for multple chargers ect. Will keep you posted on battery life ect. Thought this may be of interest for AA battery lovers. Dave. |
I use a couple of Canon A590 at work in very harsh conditions .
They have lasted very well and use AA batteries . Nikon Coolpix also very good . Dedicated batteries are a pain in the arse and will let you down at the most inconvenient times . |
I think at the moment the Fuji http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...S2000HD%20.jpg
Fuji FinePix S2000HD wow , how did I do that ? Is one of the most versatile aa battery cameras. Sadly it is in my opinion just too big for a pocket, so I might go for the Samsung wd550 which uses a cheap dedicated battery as opposed to the Panasonic tz7 which uses an expensive (and chip locked) dedicated battery. |
I bought a Canon A95 (2 x AA Batts) about five or six years ago. It doesn't seem to kill batteries quickly, is robust, has the handy swivel screen and fits in my pocket. Only a 3 x optical zoom and 4.3Mp though. It's still going strong and I've no plans to replace it.

Bit of a fuji girl myself, having travelled around the world i know you cant always find a plug socket to charge a dedicated battery !
Now i use a combination of AA for my main camera and a dedicated battery for my back-up - charging this via the 'power monkey' range........... never fool proof though Lou 'normal is a failure of potential' |
I've just bought a Pentax K-x (DSLR) which also uses AA (but x4) :thumbup1:
Apparently Sony Eneloop batteries are the way to go :smartass: hav had good reviews & praise all round |
I have used a Canon Powershot A720IS for quite a while now. It is a 8mp, X6 zoom camera with 2 AA batteries. It is small enough to slip into my pocket and takes great pictures in any conditions.
I have had poster size pictures blown up from it and they are perfect. I even submerged it in the mud, by accident, at Mont St. Michel and it survived. I have a 4GB card in it and that is enough for 100s of photographs. I am not careful with my cameras so this one has taken a good beating and has never let me down. Steve |
FUJI E900 - Old but surprisingly advanced for itself.

Nikon Coolpix
I have used a Nikon coolpix 3100 for the past 4 years, battery life is ok with AA batteries, takes good pics,I use a 1GB card,it does not like the cold though as I have to keep it warm if it gets anywhere near 0 degrees. Great little camera all round & fits in the pocket well :thumbup1:

Fuji FinePix S2000HD
I've already got a FinePix A700 which I like a lot for it's size and picture quality. Runs fine on AA batteries too. Only 3x zoom though, so I've been considering the S2000hd for it's wide/telephoto capabilities. I'm no photographer but I'd like to get good landscape and wildlife shots. Anybody know if this is a good choice for these sort of pics..?
