Unimog U1300L 4x4 Camper (In Brazil - Irish Regs)

Truck: 1986 Unimog 4×4 Motorhome
Price: $39,000 USD
Location: Foz de Iguazu, Brazil
Registration: Ireland

Want an overland vehicle which can go anywhere? Climb mountains, cross the jungle, take you to the ends of the earth? The moglander, a unimog U1300L camper is it. This truck’s crossed the steps of Asia, the desert of Morocco, the Andes from Patagonia to Colombia, and even the Amazon.

The truck’s a 1986 Mercedes Benz Unimog U1300L with a custom built camper for overland travel. It’s registered in Ireland, which allows easy transferring of ownership registration, and physically located near Foz de Iguazu, the border between Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. Perfect place to kick off an epic south american adventure. Because of it’s age, it can be imported to the US or Canada!

It features everything you need. Sleeps up to 6 people, with a full kitchen, fridge, freezer, water tank with 330 liters of water. Everything you need for long trips beyond civilization.

The U1300L truck has incredibly high clearance and differential locking 4 wheel drive. This means you can go over almost anything without a sweat. Up and down 45 degree slopes, across sand and mud. Through up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) of water without a problem. The engine is a standard Mercedes Benz UM352 and engine parts are readily accessible. What’s more it runs well on a broad range of diesel fuel qualities you’ll find around the world. It’ll go down paved roads and highways but it’s meant to get you out in the wilderness beyond where most people can explore.

The truck is 3.5 meters high, 2.5 wide, and a surprisingly short 6.5 meters in length. It’s got an amazing turning ratio which means it’s possible to get down tight village streets. The box is GRP faced ply with a steel box section internal frame and is insulated with 75mm of kingspan. The windows are double glazed and there are 2 marine roof hatches (600x600mm) allowing roof access, all these have integral blackout blinds. It can be accessed via a side door or through the cab via a door behind the drivers seat.

Did you make basically a straight line from Pipa to Foz? I saw the vehicle in Pipa when you were in Europe getting parts. I thought it was Merv, but the campground owner told me that you had bought it from Merv. I read through the thread of your travel and huge amount of headaches. Do you not want to do more travels with it?

We stopped off and explored Chapada Diamantina for a few days. We did have headaches with it, and although things are fixed, i decided it's not the right truck for me. I need something which a bit offroad that's mostly good for on road driving. What i got was something which is fantastic off road and only ok on highways.
