For sale in SE Asia, early 2017: UK rego 2004 Mitsubishi Shogun with camper set up

Hello!

We are a couple of Aussies (one of us is half American, actually) currently travelling overland from London to Southeast Asia (via Russia, Kazhakstan, Mongolia, and China). We started in May and will be to the border of China and Laos in November 2016. Because we love to plan ahead, we're letting other travellers know that we'll be putting up our wonderful car for sale in Southeast Asia as of the beginning of 2017- perfect for someone who wants to overland from Southeast Asia back to Europe!

PHOTOS: We have a photo gallery up on our blog here:

There are billions more, and videos, so let us know if you want them.

Our baby
  • 2004 Mitsubishi Shogun (Pajero) Equippe
  • Long wheel base
  • Manual transmission
  • Right hand drive
  • 3.2 litre turbo diesel
  • UK registered (in our name) with MOT until end of May 2017
  • Currently has 107,000 miles, we think it will have around 120,000 miles by the time it gets through Southeast Asia
  • So far, we haven't taken her off road at all. We might have to when we cross Kazhakstan and Mongolia, but we do try to be gentle on her. We don't off-road for fun and we don't tow anything.
  • Gets 8-10 litres per 100k
  • We are selling her for $5,000 USD

The set up
  • Luke is a carpenter and home builder, and he constructed the bed platform and drawers out of solid but lightweight wood. It's extremely functional and easy to use.
  • There is a bed platform that is built over the back seats and over a set of four large custom wooden drawers in the back. The bed platform can be unscrewed easily so that you can use the back seats. It then packs into the back so that it can be stored easily. We will be doing this in a couple of weeks when my parents join us on the trip for two weeks. However, you wouldn't want to unscrew and set up the bed platform every day, so really the car is best for two travellers (unless you take out the bed set up entirely, which is totally possible)
  • Luke is 6'4, and so he needed a bed long enough for him. The bed platform has a super clever extending piece - just slide the front seats forward, pop the extender down, and boom, another foot (200ml) of length. The bed platform holds a king size ikea foam mattress with a couple corners rounded and bits cut out to fit the shape of the car. To drive, just pop the extender back, put the seats back, and tuck the foam mattress up. You can still see out the rear view mirror 100%. The whole process takes 5 minutes. You can take out the extender if you're shorter than us.
  • We've installed pretty curtains (floral inside, black lining outside) on flexible curtain rods that easily pull back for driving and don't restrict vision
  • You may know that LWB Pajeros have a small bench seat (foldaway 6th and 7th seat) stowed in a hatch in the back. We have removed and chucked the little bench seat in favour of a huge handy storage space in the hatch. It wasn't comfortable anyway.
  • We have a tarp and four tent poles that we set up over the back in rain. Totally optional to do this.
  • There is mosquito netting over the sunroof and two back doors (which are right by our heads) so you can have a breeze but not get eaten alive

Her history
  • We bought the car in May. Previously, she has only had one other owner
  • There is a full stamped service history every 5-7,000 mile interval. We can give y photos of this if you want. (We certainly check this before we buy cars)
  • We replaced the compressor on the air conditioner when we bought the car
  • We haven't had it long enough to do a major service (the car had just been serviced when we bought it) but we plan to when we stop to see family in Romania. We will always make sure it is serviced on time throughout the trip. We'll of course keep receipts for you.

The arrangement
  • We want to explore Southeast Asia for 2-4 months after arriving in early November 2016. That means we are available to hand the car over to you anytime in January or February 2017. If you want it earlier or later than that, let us know and we can chat about it.
  • We are extremely flexible about where in Southeast Asia we hand it over to you. Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, whatever. Just talk to us and we'll try to make it work.
  • We could also take the car to a port of your choice to get her shipped to you (obviously you'd pay the shipping costs, but we'll get her to the port for you)
  • We are happy to arrange a service in Southeast Asia for you so that you can just pick it up and go
  • We can sell the car to you fully set up if you want - curtains, bedding, matress, kitchen supples, etc. so that y can just get in and go

The great thing about this car is that it is a practical camper, with bed and storage, but yet travels like a regular 4wd car - nothing to tow, no extra height that doesn't fit in underground car parks, easy on fuel unlike a huge camper van, and is a very practical 4wd for difficult terrain.

Send us a message or reply to the post if you are interested - we are more than happy to supply any other information you need.

Hey guys! Hope the trip is going well so far.

Have you found a buyer yet? We may be interested and will still be in Thailand come Jan/Feb.

If it's still potentially available, could you let me know if it's possible to use the back seats with your current set up (or a minimally altered set up)?

Also, do you know how the ownership/registration/etc would work as we are Canadians?

Thanks and best,

Curt
