Land Rover Defender TD5 for sale for family expedition - South Africa

Land Rover for Family Expedition
2004 Defender built for a family of five to explore africa. We spared no expense to get this Landy 110 TD5 ready or the bush. Equipped with three internal fuel tanks equalling 175 liters, we never feel too far from the next petrol station. We never pushed it, but we estimate it could go 1,400 kilometers between fill ups. To meet the water needs of our family of five, we installed two water tanks that hold 100 liters with an external tap on the rear of the Landy. Two Eezi-Awn rooftop tents sleep 5 comfortably, and high enough off the ground to not worry about lions roaming around you in Botswana.

We removed the two rear windows and replaced them with gullwings to give access to a National Luna fridge/freezer (included) on one side and a kitchen cupboard on the other side. The kitchen cupboard has three shelves and adequate space for dishes, cutlery, stove, gas hoses and pots/pans. There are two tables hidden under the roof rack that pull out to be set up as dining table and kitchen prep table. For those sunny and windy days we have a awning that pulls out and that can be fully enclosed for privacy and protection from the elements. In order to cook for a large family, we had a custom bracket made to hold a 9kg gas cylinder off the rear. This ensures you won't run out of gas in the bush and allows you to trade in your cylinder at most any petrol station (you never have to look for a gas-bottle filing station on a national holiday in the middle of Uppington). My wife and I spent a lot of time thoughtfully planning out how to live from a Land Rover with a large family and this one has everything you need to feel comfortable in the bush.

Not to forget about safety and reliability, I've made sure the Landy is in perfect working condition, because nothing will ruin a trip faster than being stranded in Sossusvlei. This Defender has been given new suspension coil and shocks from EFS, new clutch, new tyres, EMS Black Box for early warning, full service history, and a box of spare parts.

For recovery needs, the Landy has a rugged and sturdy front and rear bull bars, recovery points and Hi-Lift Jack points built into the bull bars, front and rear tow balls, a warn winch (newly reconditioned - looks brand new), sand tracks, ARB air compressor permanently installed under the bonnet, safari snorkel, smash and grab window tint, side steps and brush guards.

For entertainment for the kids we installed a Kenwood DVD player with built in Garmin GPS and Tracks4Africa. For Dads entertainment we have a braai grid on the back spare tyre and a secret locked compartment for valuables. This Landy could easily be the display vehicle for Front Runner or Eezi-Awn!

I am writing this from a lovely camping spot in Zambia as the kids are playing in the pool and my wife is making dinner. We don't want it to end, but unfortunately our trip will be over in five weeks and it'll be time to sell our beloved Landy and move back to Canada.

Are you a family looking for an adventure? Can you take good care of our Landy?

She'll be available in mid December in Joburg.

What is wrong with the Landy:
1) The 40% Rear Seat Back will not release from the mechanism and can't fold down until fixed.
2) Air Con blows cold (recharged two weeks ago) but compressor is on its last legs
3) 3 of the 4 mudflaps are somewhere in Namibia
4) I don't have a key to lock the rear drawer system so you can't lock it

None of these are a train-smash

As you can see most items were purchased and installed in 2014 in preparation for our big trip. Now that our trip is almost over, make our loss your gain!

Internet is spotty for us in the next few weeks in Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi. Please send me an email and be patient until I can reach a wifi hotspot to respond.

The price is 350,000 Rand and will only be negotiable if I can't find a buyer in the next 2 weeks. If you want a Landy ready for you and your family to explore Africa, this one is ready to go. If you want to build up your own dream Landy, you'll probably pass this one up.
