93 Hilux 4x4 Tanzania Africa Overland Vehicle Sale

We are leaving Tanzania and selling our much loved 1993 Toyota Hilux Utility / Pickup Truck. We have owned this car for the past 12 years and imported it from Australia in 2014. The car was completely unused / in storage for 5 years (12/08 - 02/14). The engine has recently (09/15) been fully rebuilt, making it essentially as good as new, ready for the next 10 - 20 years (250,000km - 500,000km). New radiator was installed in 03/15. The car is extremely well maintained and in excellent running condition.

This car is a highly capable offroader, well suited for overland tours and safaris in Africa (equipped with necessary tools, camping and recovery gear). The commercial Hilux (not Surf) is often used in competition 4x4, suitable (unmodified / from stock) for basic rock crawling (high ground clearance with a good approach angle), and has very good traction in mud and sand (Kumho MT). Besides the fun stuff, the Hilux is also a solid workhorse for hauling your everyday payload needs (approx. 1.3 Tonne). The custom built tray cage is lockable and the roof rack can accommodate oversize cargo (detachable rails). The tray / tub has wooden storage / drawer system, with a flat surface suitable for sleeping on.

Though it may lack some comfort and speed compared to newer 4WDs, this 5th generation Hilux (88-97) enjoys a reputation of being the most reliable and toughest (near indestructible) car ever made. Further, given its simplistic design and lack of electronics, getting repairs done (especially when in remote locations) is a lot easier and cheaper. Also, due to Hilux’s popularity in harsh driving environments, getting spare parts has always been straightforward in Dar.
