french campsites in Feb?
What's the percentage of french campsites that are open in Feb? Are the lots or not very many?
I'm looking to head down the middle-left side (as I look at my map...), so roughly a line between Rouen and Toulouse, down to Barcelona. cheers |
I travelled through France early January till late January and found most of them that I encountered closed, IMHO you are much better off at that time of year to use hotel formulae1 approx €35 max(up to 3 people) includes breakfast unlimited hot coffee and juice
|
Not very many I'm afraid.
But both Hôtel Campanile: hotel booking, hotel reservations in France and Europe and Ibis Hotels: book a hotel online for a business trip or a vacation have a massive network over France and will be much warmer in February and are reasonably priced. |
I dont know about campsites but I usually use budget "system" hotels, when travelling 'in transit', like Villages Hotel, B & B Hotel. In both (although combining into one chain) the cost is generally about 35-40 Euros per room, you have your own shower and toilet. Camponile is a little more - 50Euro. Formula 1 costs less but with no private facilities other than a TV and wash basin (OK for p*ss*ng in if desparate, I suppose - but who would admit to that?).

yeah, I think I'll have to fork out for hotels. I'll sling the camping stuff in the panniers incase I get lucky.

Touche... !
LOL |
in my view it is too cold for camping. I am a fair weather camper and my gear reflects that. Be prepared to deal with -12c.
if you take the non peage routes, the money you save will pay for most of your rooms. however the peage 'aires/ rest stops' mostly have all teh facilities you will need ( toilets, often showers and washrooms), but all unheated. many chambres d'Hotes ( BnB's ) are also closed, so pre book if possible |
definitely non-peage routes, I'm cycling.

I'd say about 1% chance, although when you get down to the far south you might find one or two.

Go the Formule 1 route as they also have a buffet breakfast you can stuff your face with. Oh and everyone p*ss*s in the sink, it's a well known fact. |

There's one here, right on your route that's open 365days a year BandB-Camping-Chambres d'hôtes near Carcassonne - also in my sig line. Directly south of Carcassonne, would be a great place to stop at on the D118 before heading south through the gorge of Pierre Lys ...
