Yamaha FZ1000 with knoby tires

Hi,
Is it too crazy an idea to mount knoby tires on a street bike, for example the Yamaha FZ1000 (Fazer in Europe) so you can take it off road? (when traveling rtw for example).
If it is not too crazy, are there tubeless knoby tires in the market? and what are they?
Motor.

You don't need knobbies.

Most travellers use "dual-purpose" tires. I use a street tire on the back for longer life. You ARE NOT going to be riding in such a way that you NEED knobbies unless you are absolutely somewhere you shouldn't be, and then they probably won't help much given the weight.

See the links page (on left) for Sjaak Lucassen's story - second time rtw, first time on a CBR900RR, this time on an R1.

Others travel on Gold Wings, BMW R100RT's and other pure street bikes. You don't need an off-road bike unless you really want to go off-road, and then you should get a real dual purpose bike. If money is a concern, for the price of a Fazer you can get any of a number of great dual purpose bikes in excellent condition.
