RE Himalayan front rack load capacity
 

Hello,

Does anyone know the load capacity of the front rack for the RE Himalayan (2022)?
I was wondering if it was possible to hang two 2 gallons on it (one on each side).

Weight in that position will cause some interesting handling, if it were me I'd stick with bags of clothes or bedding there and keep the fuel down low at the back

Have to agree.

2 gallons of gas (12 pounds; 5.5 kg) is a lot of weight to hang on your suspension over the front wheel. I'v never done it but I would guess it would make for very slow and maybe unpredictable rebound and turning. It certainly won't improve it.

I'd use it for bulky but lightweight stuff, like gloves, rainjacket, etc.

I read the question as referring to "crash bar" type racks alongside the normal fuel tank rather than anything over the headlight or mudguard? That seems like a not unreasonable location?

I'd take a look at the manual. Most racks seem to come with a lawyers notes that'll say nothing for a crash bar or 5 kg for a luggage rack. You can safely add many more kg's above such lawyers numbers in most cases and I've seen many a Himalayan carrying Jerry cans off these tank protection bars. If this was Starbucks or the Road of Bones is of course the question. Either way, the set-up needs testing, you can't know if the welder was having the bad day or the steel supplier had a job lot of Chineseium to shift.

Currently trying and answer similar on the Cub, the "centre rack" is being fought over for both Jerry can and somewhere to stow my navigation notes.

It is more the other way around You get a better balance with some load in the front and not everything in the back.
