I am thinking about a route from Bejneu to Kungrad and then to Dushanbe,
I think it is less difficult then crossing the Utsyurt at the kazak side. It is also shorter and so I can spend more time in the Pamirs and Kyrgistan, I go back via kazakstan (M32). In my first plan I want to enter uzbekistan between Shimkent and Toshkent. how is the road at the Pamir at the end of may? In my plans I ride from 25 to 28 may 2010 in the pamirs from Dushanbe to Osh in Kyrgistan, |
It's OK.
I crossed from Beyneu to Kungrad at the end of July. It is possible to do it without a GPS and you can do it on a Harley if you tried hard. The Uzbek side is almost completely paved. Noone seems to know this yet. They were still working on some sections when I was there. The Kazakh side is a relatively good gravel/dirt road. Road TO Beyneu FROM Aktau (The Caspian ferry port) was harder in my opinion. There is some powder like sand at the border crossing but that's not even a mile.
But if you ARE looking for sandy tracks to get lost in, you'll have plenty of them around. |
I am not coming from Aktau but from Atyrau and Kulsary, I think that is a better road.

Here is a GPX file I prepared on Google maps in case anyone wants to use it. It proved to be quite precise.

Hi Ahe 59,
I work in Atyrau but live in Voorburg, NL. I have a spare appartment here and is free most of the time so if you need it and it is free you are more then welcome. If you need any other info about Atyrau just give me a shout. I have done UK to Kaz 3 times by the northern route (Ukraine-Russia) and last time South Turkey Baku - Aktau - Atyrau. Mike |
