Turkmenistan transit Khojayli(Nukus)-Ashgabat

Hello! Can anyone tell me what the state of the road is like from Nukus to Ashgabat, how long the journey is (we're on motorcycles) and if there are any petrol stations along that road. Or are we better off going back to Bukhara from Kiva and take the eastern transit road from Turkmenabat. We'll be crossing next month so are expecting very hot conditions!! Many thanks! Anne

We went the other way around. Day 1 from Ashgabat to the craters (one gas station in between), day 2 from the craters to Khiva. It was hot (really hot) and that was plenty of riding. Keep in mind the border crossing is very time consuming.

I believe the gas station is on the OSM map and most likely on Colebatch's way points as well.

The road is paved and mostly good.

Looking at some old tracks I believe we got gas in Yerbent, at about N39 18 39.2 E58 35 30.9. Regular gas station, no coke bottles or drums. Go back in the posts two weeks ago or so, there is another discussion about the road conditions

80km south of Konye Urgench (exactly just after the potholes stop) there's a good petrol station (and the last before very close to asghabat). These first 80km south are pretty bad. Count 2hrs for them. Afterwards no propper petrol station untill close to asghabat. Don t leave to early (heat), and not too late (light). It was +48°C when i got there around 17.00 a month ago.
The part of that road north of the crater has some small shops and stops. Can t imagine you dont find fuel there.. bring loads of water! Certainly if you intend riding to the crater by bike.
The road south from the crater to Asghabat is as good as it gets. + 80km/hr easily.
Enjoy! It is magic!
