Turkey to Kazakhstan
Hi start to some plans for 2026 and i know that things change fast these days...
Europe-> turkey (travel around turkey) Turkey> "stans" Question is what's best route, border crossing's ? Its possible to go from turkey to Georgia-> Azerbaijan baku -> ??? Ferry to aktau ? Any advice information is welcome . thannks |
Azerbaijan land and sea borders are closed with no prospect of reopening in the near future. Most people heading east go via Turkey > Georgia > Russia.
There is no problem travelling through Russia but you will need to get a visa in advance (NOT evisa) and take enough cash for your time in the country as western cards don't work there. Iran is another possibility but they require CDP and are not friendly to all nationalities just now. |

BUT: You need a cargo company to bring your vehicle in, and you need to fly in by yourself with a plane, otherwise you cannot cross the landborders. It is possible, but time consumpting and expensive. Better and easyer is to take the route through Russia |
Which border you suggest from Russia to kazakistan ? I heard just few days ago that the road/ Border to Qaraqualpakstan/Nukus is closed to vehicle under 35 QTL weight ... this means Bikes have to pass with a long journey to Baikonur... Have anybody heard about this?
Many Tks ! |

Karakalpakstan border KZ-UZ
Hi there-
I planned to take that border (Beyneu-Karakalpakstan) on my trip to Central Asia next year (2026). This post on HUBB is the only one i found saying that this special border post is closed to vehicles under 3.5 ton (equals 35QTL??) = motorbikes. - where did you get that information from? Couldn't find info on i.e.caravanistan forum nor elsewhere that transit is limited. - In case this info is true - is everyone really doing the deviation Atyrau-Aktöbe-Shymkent or is there another possibility to cross into UZ there? Train, truck etc? Thanks Karin |

I had to do the long route last month, Shymkent-Aral-Aktobe-Atyrau. Next year you should be OK, though border closures seem to be the norm rather than the exception in that part of the world. |
