Train from Ulan-bator to Hanoi
 

Hello,

I'm planning a trip starting from The Netherlands through Asia.
The country this whole trip started with is seeing the guys from "the long way round" riding through Mongolia.

I plan to leave in May of this year, When I finally get to Mongolia, I will have to transport my bike and myself by train from Ulan-bator to Hanoi. Because it's not allowed to ride through China:(.

I fear this is not going to be an easy process.:helpsmilie:

Are there any tips on how to do this?
Is it maybe possible I get contact details of someone who can help me out when I get there? Only if it is okay by them as well.

From what I know, getting a foreign-plated bike into Vietnam is near-impossible.

You'd basically have to find a cargo agent that can have your bike, on a pallet or in a container, forwarded through China (rome2rio tells me the trains from Ulan Bator to Beijing and Beijing to Hanoi use different stations in Beijing), then into Vietnam, through customs, and unloaded in Hanoi ready to ride.

Not impossible, but I'd say, more headaches and money than just sharing the cost of a guided tour from the Mongolian border to Laos or Nepal.

I've made a big change of plans and will be going with some other travelers from Kyrgyzstan through China and on to Pakistan and India. We'll share the cost of the guide through China.
