I take it your will be going via Turkey then as you head to Iran?

If so Tajik embassy in Istanbul same day services.

You will need 2 photos for each applicant along with a letter stating your request to visit Tajikistan. You can get the photos at a shop which is about 500 meters from the embassy

As you step out the embassy turn right then take your next left down to a main road and turn right, about 100-150 meters on your left across the other side of the road is a wedding photo shop who do photos there

As for the letter i hand write one in the embassy no problems

Don't forget to ask for a GBAO Pamir permit also as this is a separate stamp

It is possible to get a Tajikistan visa in Tashkent (north of Samarkand) no problem, there is a nice little hostel there

Gulnara Guesthouse

We got our visas in Tashkent and then got our GBAO permits in Dushanbe on the way (2014)

Good luck!

Thanks for this info.
How long did you wait to get this visa and what is the cost?
RR.

jamie123j 3 Feb 2015 11:55

Cant remember the exact cost sorry, don't remember it being much

The visa was done overnight which gave enough time to chill out and enjoy what the city has to offer

The GBAO permit in Dushanbe was very cheap as we used the 'bank trick'

how get your gbao permit cheap

Again this was done overnight, we stayed in a cheap little hostel, facilities not amazing but had internet, a kitchen to cook and was a hot spot for other travelers

Adventurer's Inn Dushanbe

Adventurer's Inn Dushanbe

If the Adventurers inn is the 4 room guest house located on the back roads with double gates and a garage for bikes then it closed around 2 months ago, the main owner decided it was time to sell so the main guy who ran it called Ruslan has brought another building near the airport which he is planning to turn into a guest house. he said he thinks it will be sold and used as a house so the next owners will not be running it as a guest house ...... shame it was a pretty cool place i stayed there quit a few times

It seems common on this forum that people get there tajik visa in Ubek but Pamir in Dushanbe, why is this Jamie do they not issues Pamir visa's at the Tashkent office or did you forget to ask for the Pamir permit ?

The process in Istanbul was very simple and took less than 30 minutes after i got the photos for both parts of this visa, it was actually the easiest and quickest visa process i ever had and the building was more of a large home than an embassy

Well that's two choices for you now christian but if you do get your tajik visa in Tashkent and pamir permit in Dushanbe but are still passing Turkey on route and have never been to Istanbul before i would say its worth visiting still....... its pretty good for a city

They wouldn't issue our Pamir permit at Tashkent unfortunately. Shame to hear about the Adventurer's Inn, we met some great people there!

Id also second what Wesley says, Istanbul is a great city!

roro 4 Feb 2015 08:13

Thanks Jamie and Wesley.
Unfortunately, Istanbul is not on my way (and I've already visited it several times) but Ankara is. So do you know it'also easy to get this visa in Ankara?

here is the answer today Consulate in Istanbul

If you pass though Istanbul, we can issue you a tourist visa here in about thirty minutes. You will need to bring two photos, fill an application form and pay $50. Regarding your vehicle, we don't know the procedure for crossing the border with your car. And about GBAO, permission for that is issued only at the MFA of TJ in Dushanbe, TJ. No consulates or embassies issue it.

Well lets hope not as what about people who enter via Kyrgyzstan and enter the GBAO (Pamir) first via the Pamir highway, if the tajik consulate in Istanbul is stating that now you can only get a GBAO permit in Dushanbe and not at no other consulates or embassies now then this will mean people can only enter the GBAO region via West Tajikistan............????

Maybe this has something to do with the Pamir being closed last year for a few weeks as some consulates or embassies would issue this permit and some would not so maybe they have put this GBAO permit solely under the control of Dushanbe....?

Would be good for someone to confirm this before everyone starts heading out this way later this year

Chri8 4 Feb 2015 18:53

I don't think Istanbul is speaking for all embassies, there are embassies, that never issued GBAO and embassies, that have the GBAO on the website. Even if you would have to enter the Pamir without the GBAO over Kyzyl Art, I think you would get through and ask in Khorog or Murghab about it.

That is what i was thinking maybe it was just this Istanbul embassie however within the last 12 months i have got 2 tajik and pamir visa at 2 separate occasions in Istanbul with no problems at all so why is the change in policy now? maybe it is at the discretion of who is ever running the embassy in question at the time of visa application ?

but as you said he is not speaking for all embassies his text would say otherwise as he is stating the pamir permit is only available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dushanbe "And about GBAO, permission for that is issued only at the MFA of TJ in Dushanbe, TJ. No consulates or embassies issue it"

i am sure this must be a mistake.

However as for crossing over from Kyzyl Art into Gorno Badakhshan (Pamir) without the permit you will not get in unless you have a permit i am very sure on that.

Why i always state to ask for this GBAO permit when applying for a Tajik visa is i did not when i got my first visa in Bishkek and it was only after a French girl who was also applying for a visa told me if i was going to the Pamir that i must write in big letters GBAO on the application on the section of areas i will be visiting as she said some Americans who did not just got the Tajik visa and got turned back at Kyzyl Art (Pamir border)

We got our visa for Tajikistan in Istanbul in april and the above information is correct. Half an our work nog GBAO.... You need the 50 dollar per person in cash. At the bank is an ATM where you can probably get it from, we already had it with us.
Have a good trip!

Jervig 22 Apr 2015 19:47

GBAO No consulates or embassies issue it. ????

We got it together with our visa last year in Brussel, extra cost 10 USD.

GRTZ,

Jeroen

Lilian van der Wijngaart 23 Apr 2015 06:39

Well they didn't say it was for all the embassys/consulates the same...
Istanbul consulate just didn't do the GBAO anymore.
It would be easy to get one in Dushanbe, thats not changed.
Cheers,
