Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan - Pamir Highway from Khorog to Osh
Hello,
Has anybody recently travelled along the Pamir Highway from Khorog to Osh via Murghab and Sary Tash along the M41? And have they crossed back into Uzbekistan at the Khoajabad/Osh border? and headed to Tashkent? I'm considering this route at the beginning of June, instead of returning to Dushanbe, then to Taskent via Samarkand. Jon |
We did the Pamir section last summer - two up. All pretty straight forward apart from some snow, which was cold more than anything else (we only packed mid season gear).

How was it?
Did you travel right through to Osh? Travel over the border to Uzbekistan? |

The Tadj side is mostly fair to poor asphalt, expect for the mountain passes which are fairly corrugated gravel. But all in all fairly easy - it was only the cold that made it suck, sunny day it would have been a blast, this was only the passes between Khorog and KaraKol, we waited for better weather when we did the pass on the border, it was nice day, even no mans land was okay, much better than pics from when Walter did it. We did Uzb and then into Tadj, so I don't know about the crossings from Kygr into Uzb. |
Hi BigO, see tread: Pamir region open again in 2013? in Northern Asia Forum.

Hi Muztoo
what is the current situation in the Fergana region? Since days there are reports of closed borders, now even railways between the two countries seem to be shut down: Rail System Jammed After Kyrgyz-Uzbek Border Clash | World | RIA Novosti Are all crossings closed, or only those to the enclaves? Cheers |

After living in Osh for quite some years, I tell you this is a normal issue. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan play power games. Often it starts with boarder closing. The next threat of Uzbekistan is to cut off the gas supply and Kyrgyzstan in response threatens Uzbekistan to give them less water as agreed, so that there cotton harvest will be in danger.
It will probably not take much time and the boarders will be open again. Most times tourists are allowed to cross the boarder anyway. CHeers. Patrik |
