Sokcho to Zarubina Ferry temporarily not running
 

Just returned from S. Korea and would like to share some news about Dong Chun ferry service.
Due to the increase of port fees in Zarubina, Russia, as of March 31st, Dong Chun Ferry company decided to suspend the service between Sokcho and Zarubina. Ferry to Vladivostok is maintaining normal schedule and company is still negotiating trying to keep line to Zarubina going.
This was posted on the ferry terminal building and we got same information in the Dong Chun ticket sales office.

Hopefully as it gets warmer and traffic picks up again this issue will be resolved.

Hi Nomade, I saw this info 3 days back on the Dong Chu ferry site. I'm planning on taking the ferry in Mid May, but as best as I can tell it shouldn't make any difference to anyone as the intention is surely to get to Russia, and whether it's Zarubino or Vladivostok is basically irrelevant.

The only concern would be if they have not replaced all the Zarubino sailings with ones to Vladivostok - I think it used to be 2 Zarubino sailings, and 1 Vladivostok sailing a week, I hope there are now 3 Valdivstok sailings a week and not just 1.

Greetings to down under. I agree with you, it makes no real big difference Zarubina or Vladivostok.
Looking at some other posts going to Zarubina is a bit cheaper and because it's such a small place customs and immigration are easier.
I'll be taking this ferry in early July.

and easier, and quickly! Usually for 1 day, not 2-4 days like in Vladivostok

I will be taking this Ferry in mid May too. I am arriving in Korea on May 2nd and planning to catch a Ferry on May 14th or so as I am planning to start my expedition on May 18th.
Garry, Where is the site for Dong Chun ferry site? The one I have is in Korean. is there a English site somewhere please?
I wold prefer to go to Zarubino as I read it's lot easier port then Vladivostok.

Also had no luck finding Dong Chun ferry site in english, only korean or russian. As soon as i find any useful info from my sources in Korea i'll post it in this thread.:eek3:

Nomade, it's late and I'm tired, so I will post later. Zarubino can be a real pain...no matter how you do it. I hope I am part of the reason the ferry is skipping this port now. Much more info on the way....Hook.

Hook can attest to this with his recent experience...but in the last few months, the Dong Chung Ferry company ran into some issues with Russian customs crap, and it was costing the company money.

The ferry company in protest stopped serving Zurubina for a short bit, but recently started up again.

Every Monday there is a ferry from Sochko to Zurubina and every Thursday there is a ferry to Vladivostok. Although this isn't as frequent as in the past, its better than nothing.

Car and motorcycle are welcome on both.

This is information is from the DC ferry folks via my shipping contact in Sochko.

I just got an email from Wendy Choi, who is going to help me to custom for my car in Pusan that Ferry is running now to Zarubino but only Monday.

i'm trying to plan a trip using this ferry but can't find any prices. i've been looking for ages now. can anybody give me a rough idea of what it costs to get from russia to s. korea. i'll be travelling in scumbag class:)

More changing news on the ferry...

The ferry between Sochko to Zurubina is no longer carrying passengers....cargo only!

Passengers can ship their vehicle/cargo between Sochko and Zurubina, but must travel themselves between Sochko and Vladivostok. Once in Vladivostok, they have to make their way down to Zurubina to pick up their vehicle...

Sorry for the bad news...

Does anyone know if this is still the only option if you want to ship to Zarubino? Are passengers allowed to get of there as well now?

Passengers have to take a separate ferry from Sochko to Vladivostok. Then from Vlad, they go down to Zurubina to pick up their vehicles.

Vlad customs is getting tougher as is Zurubina...

ArunP should be postin his recent experience on here shortly...he was there about three weeks ago...

BUT again, this is subject to change...things could be different in one month.

Dong Chun Ferry
 

Talked to the ferry people in Sokcho today again.
Zarubina problem is resolved, bikes and bikers are welcome to get off the ferry in this port.
At least two people who posted here made it through Zarubino recently, big group of korean Harley riders is using Zarubina as point of entry on June 26th and summer schedule is three times a week, starting very soon.
I am still planning to take a ferry early July and will let you know how i go with the clearance.

How about Zarubino to Shocko?
 

In about 40 days I will be in Vladivostok/Zarubino. As far as I understand the ferry between Zarubino (Rus) and Shocko(Kor) is working now and taking passangers and vehicles on board. I am 1 person on 1 motorcycle.
- Can anybody confirm that I will be able to get on the ferry in Zarubino with my motorcycle and get off in Shocko?
- I understand the price is 250$/moto and 250$/person, thus being 500$ for my bike and me. Is that correct?
- Does anybody have the GPS coordinates of the ferry in Zarubino? Is it hard to find?
- Which are the days of the week when the ferry runs from Zarubino to Shocko? Should I take it from Vlad or is Zarubino better?
- Any other advices, suggestions are more than welcomed.

I'm scoping out a tour through Siberia and around the Eastern Sea, and I'm trying to get information on this Russian Korean ferry crossing...
It might be easier asking one of yous what's actually there... can anyone tell me if they can fit trucks and buses on this boat and how much it all costs? And whether it sails right through the winter?
Any help much appreciated.

I realize this is an old thread. But, didn't want to start a new one...

Had some communication with Wendy Choi on Feb.07, 2011. She indicated, after talking to the Ferry office herself, that the Dong Chun Ferry is again out of commission with no definite resume of operation date.

Thought y'all might want to know...
