Siberia

Hello people
I drove last year from Denmark to Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, China and Siberia and Russia approximately 30.000 km in 5 months. Now I have started to plan a motorcycle trip through Russia and Siberia to Yakutsk. From highway 5 “The Kolyma Highway” to Magadan. It is perhaps the most difficult route to climb. Winter is the reasonably secure but not on Mc. Spring from May to June, the roads are dissolved. In July it should be reasonable and in August-September water from the mountains around spoil the road. Who has driven this stretch in 2015?

There is a lot on the HUBB about this route; while there is not much from this year, one guy apparently did the OSM solo this year.

Not sure if you're aware, but there is a also a new federal road to Magadan which is in much better condition and which will almost certainly be passable on any kind of bike/vehicle (subject to annual bridge washouts during floods).

The road Yakutsk to Magadan is not a difficult road. It is a Federal Highway. You can do the 2000 km at 100 kmh in 3 days if you want to.

As motoreiter says, many people on this forum have done that road (or variations of that road). Tap into the waypoints file for more details on services available and route variations available: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...aypoints-50860

Please search for info and if there are any specific questions left over not covered by your search, feel free to ask.

Road of Bones

Just came off the RoB. Did yak-Magadan-Yakutsk. Realky long drive.

Road is super good and quite fast. In fact I found the highway considerably better than most of Russia's northern paved highways.

There are rough patches but these are under construction and is to be expected.

I found the tract from Lensk Mirny Yakutsk way worse a highway, worsening as you approach Yakutsk with the increasing traffic.

I did the RoB in a camping car... no longer is the route such high adventure.

Looks like also the OSR to Tomtor is high quality...the bridge towards Tomtor at km735,I cant remember, just before the famous fuel depot 200 km from Ust-Nera, is really spiffy.

Yes, the OSR is maintained for 160km, as far as Tomtor. Its the 240 km after that that gets "funky", because that section is not used or maintained. But the road from Kyubeme to Tomtor is maintained and has brand new bridges.

Hi,
I was on the Kolyma hwy two weeks ago. I think monnomania hits the nail on it´s head. It´s a really good road. And seems like you are not a total riding noob so you shouln´t have any problems.
I really enjoyed riding there in late august when the fall colours are out.

cheers
matthias

I wish I'd gone onto Magadan. I didn't know the Hiway was in good condition. Maybe it gives me a excuse to ride across Russia again. I had such a great time.
