Shipping bike to Moscow/St Petersburg
 

Hi,

I just finished my trip to the Pamirs (what an adventure!) and I am now in Bishkek. I would like to get home within 10-20 days. Faster better, less riding better (bad weather), cheaper of course better. Fuel or train seem to cost similarly and I really don't want to spend too much on air freight or any of that.

I was thinking about going to Almaty and try to get bike in train to Moscow/St Petersburg, but have heard it might be hard so I think I will leave in rain today and go for Omsk. In Omsk I plan to try to put bike on train to Moscow/St Pet. I expect ride from Bishkek to Omsk to be 3-4 days.

Better options available?
How to get bike on train in Omsk?
Other ideas?

Advice would be very much appreciated as I might be looking at hammering my bike in cold rain during the next 15 days if I can't find good transport.

Replying to my own thread.

Shipping with train from Kazakhstan into Russia seems hard/impossible if you don't know language and what to say/who to pay.

I went to Omsk where I am now. Seems easy and cheap and relatively fast to get bike to St Petersburg with transportation company (I tried to send bike as luggage on same train as myself, but again seems hard if you don't know how).

I will write separate post about shipping when it's done and I know how it all went.

Hmm my first reply ended up being changed to a lot of russian letters after pressing "post". Weird.

Anyway, thanks. I ended up using "zhdalians". about 3500 rubles, 7 days Omsk -> St Petersburg. I just dropped of my bike in Omsk and then picked it up crated in St P. Only little hurdle was when I called to check if all was ok the day before expected delivery. They said it was delayed but I went there anyway and the bike was there. I would use them again if, for instance, I wanted to take bike from St Petersburg to Irkutsk to do a trip towards Magadan, Mongolia or something like that. They said they shipped all over Russia (where there is rail).
