Secure parking Turkmenistan needed?
 

Hi folks,

We are in the process of acquiering Turkmen tourist visa with the mandatory guide and tour package. The tour organisation prepicks some hotels.

Is it important to have secure parking for our bikes? Any experiences?

Turkmenistan is a real police state, and rates of crime are very low. I would imagine it will be fine to park your bikes outside, but obviously strip them of any baggage etc which could easily be stolen.

I crossed in 3 days on the transit visa I aquired in Mashhad, Iran.

The first night I camped at a petrol station.

The second night, I was forced to stay at a very expensive hotel $60usd per night. The bike seemed safe enough outside of the western style hotel. The hotel security kept watch..

I wouldn't worry about your bikes being stolen.. they stand out so much it's hard to imagine they can do anything with them.. Driving your bike there is like riding a mule in Paris...
I spent 4 days there (like many here on the hubb) and altough i did have weird experiences (being hidden away by locals,..) i never saw or heard about actual crime/theft involving tourists in Turkmenistan..
Enjoy the trip! It's an awesome place (as a tourist).
