Pamir Highway on a 110cc bike. Possible?

Hi,

Seriously considering a trip on the Pamir Highway and the surrounding areas next July/August.

I'm from Australia and spend a lot of time in remote Australia off-road motorbike riding. Also tropical Asia.

Can't afford to ship a bike or buy a decent one... So...
Could I pick up a Chinese bike in Osh??, make it through the border???, and the bike survive the whole trip???. I'm not in a hurry, 3 weeks?

Is there a brand of bike that is used and readily fixed through the 'area'???

What do you think?

Thanks

Bike in Osh???

Hi

My name is Dave and I have a Business here in Osh. To buy a bike you might have to go more to the north, mybe in Bishkek or Almaty. But in Osh you cannot buy any bike.
A few rentals are available, also on smaller vehicles.
Three weeks is also a bit short on notice for buying a bike.

Good luck, Dave

Hi Yogi,
My bike is parked over there. I'd consider renting out to you. Xt600 Yamaha prepared for long distance.

I watched a vid the other day where a couple bought two Chinese bikes for a trip in the USA.

I think they shot the bikes on the side of the highway after a few weeks.

:)

You get Chinese bikes and Chinese bikes. I have a Chinese made Benelli TRK502X which have done thousands of kms in China without missing a beat. Friend of mine is busy touring the west of China with a similar bike and has done even more kms than me. Benelli and CFMoto are both reputable and reliable Chinese made bikes, so i think a bit unfair to paint all of them as crap.

In terms of is the bike capable enough I would say definitely yes, I have recently done a 8,500km tour of India and Nepal on a Hero Impulse 150cc with a passenger, including some fairly high roads in Nepal. I know Chinese bikes have something of a reputation for uncertain quality but if you can find an Indian built one such as a Hero, Bajaj, TVS or one built by a Japanese company there I have found them all to be very good and worth looking at.

There was a Swiss Guy passing by at our base in Osh some years ago. He was riding the whole trip, including the Pamir Highway and even some side roads of it on a 100cc bike.
The bike was still ok. Don't ask me the brand or so. I can't remember.

Hi. Here is a guy riding a Honda 50 ccm with 3 gears through the Pamir Highway, so yes you can do it with 100-150 ccm motorcycle.

A french guy passed me on the Pamir on a 30 yo Honda Custom 125.

100 percent possible.

Im reminded that Claudio did much better on his Chinese 125 (150?) Than either Ewan Or Charley did on their BMW GSA. Video proof...
